Choosing a 35mm Camera

Recommended Posts

Thanks for this post, Marc!

One can easily imagine a reader in 1953 carefuly matching his needs and budget to the 35mm camera market, going over the pages of Keppler's article. So many well-known cameras in that list. At the time, "manual focus" had a wholly different meaning!

The piece on (not) buying a camera abroad is a gem of practical economic history.

Nice to see my Ikonta 35 and Vito II in the ads, as new.

The one about the history of 35mm photography is interesting.

As for bringing back cameras bought in other countries, I suspect some is still true, but one that they mention, cameras (I presume lenses) marked in meters instead of feet, doesn't seem right. Lenses that I know now all have both units on them.

How much of a problem is the trademark question today?

I am building the index for my website right now. The Keppler article will fit right in to the Buying Guide section. Imagine 20 years of similar articles. I also have a section on Camera Shows with all the Photokina shows from 1952 through 1968. I have a section on camera innovations and refinements as they were introduced.
