What lenses are compatibile with Fujica 801?

Recommended Posts

Hello.

What m42 lenses are comaptibile with st801 body? Fujinons, probably all Takumars and? I've tried CZJ Sonnar 200 mm and it won't fit. How about other CZJ? I think Flektogons are OK, since I've seen photos on Flickr, 801 with CZJ Flektogon. I'm curious about other Sonnars, Triotars, or FSU lenses. Any help?

PS. How about non fujinon lenses jammed on 801 body? Is it only urban legend or real problem?

I have quite a few different screw-mount lenses and SLRs, including a Fujica ST 801, as well as GAF, Ricoh, Mamiya, Vivitar, Praktica, and Zenit. I have not had any issues mounting different brands of lenses on the ST 801, or EBC Fujinon lenses on other cameras. Mamiya SX lenses used a similar coupling method for open-aperture metering with their MSX and DSX cameras, but I don't believe it is compatible with Fujica's.

My SMC Takumar standard lens mounts fine on the ST 801. The SMC Takumars have an extra tiny pin and should not be used on Zenit cameras, however, as the pin can get caught in the lens mount screw holes (I found this out the hard way).

The ST 801 body does have a locking pin that I suppose that could potentially catch on some lenses, though I've not come across any that do.

Pentax SMC lenses get caught on Praktica bodies I think. If Fujica has locking pin, its lenses may get caught in mount holes the same way. I don't think early Contax S/D fit lenses (early 1950's) fit all later cameras as they block the pin stop mechanism.

I think since the Fujica 801 was Fuji's most advanced M42 mount SLR I'd hold out for used Fujions that have the necessary coupling for open aperture metering. If having open aperture metering is not needed, I'd play it safe with older M42 lenses and use stop down metering. Or even use T-mount lenses.

Just decided to check a few more lenses and found that the CZJ Tessar 50/2.8 and Pentacon Electric 50/1.8 do catch on the ST 801's lens lock pin (actually, two pins). However, these pins retract when you press in the lock release button on the body, and then the lenses can be mounted fully.

All of my FSU lenses (1970s and later) seem to work OK on the ST 801 with stop-down metering. Hope this helps with the OP's questions.
