For the 9th consecutive year a Great Horned Owl has nested at entrance to Lady Bird Wildflower Center in Austin, This year she had two owlets.

Thanks for this, Bill. My sister lives in Austin and took me there in June. Who knew there is such a treasure there every year. I told her to keep an eye out for the owls. She is a birder. This is such a great photo.

Visiting again in Georgia, where things are a bit different from Vermont. Near where we're staying is the Finizzy Swamp, which is a combination of nature preserve and sewage treatment facility. Alligators roam the area, but the best spotting is in the fenced-in first pond where I suspect they put the problem gators. Every once in a while you hear a snapping sound and a turtle or duck has left the premises, so the gators look pretty smug.
