How to drive a Rollei electronic shutter

Hello

I would get a Rodenstock lens "Digaron W-50mm f / 4", with a Rollei-electronic shutter of size 1 (speed 1/500).

My problem is that I want to use this lens with a computer shutter control (drived with a program).
I didn't a topic on the Rollei e-shutter...

I know there is a control box Rollei, which controls the shutter speed and the trigger, but I don't know if it's possible to do this from a computer program.
Anyway, I will not buy this shutter if I cannot drive it myself. Maybe there are other shutters with same performances wich could work well. (Advices and discussions are welcome)

Does anyone have experience with Rollei e-shutter?

Hi Bob,
You're right it would work easier, and I'm also interested in this solution.
However, I try to work with a Size 1 shutter, with fastest speed possible.
I know only the Rollei e-shutter in size 1 (electronic, speed 1/300s).
Do you have an idea?
Regards,

Hi Bob,
I've studied the Rodenstock e-shutter a little better.
Do you know if it can be trigged by an electrical TTL signal (not from the USB connection)?
I've a specific synchronisation controller, that I 'd like to use.
I mean hard trigg is better than soft trigg.. so that..

The Rodenstock shutter can be totally controlled from an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch so there really shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't rig up a different release system. The software to operate it will be a free download at the App Store at Apple.
Will your software interface with the iPhone?

Not really, I'd like to create a computer drive, to make synchronized shots with a sensor detection (like motion sensor). Also with repeatability, and all automatized.
-> software configuration (aperture/speed), calculated from a light sensor.
-> hardware trigger (electrical), from a motion sensor.
What do you think?

All it taakes to fire an electronic shutter is a pulse. So triggering any of them should not be a proble, Triggering them at the right point might be a problem but you can work with the X synch in the camera and the shutter to ensure that the blades are fully open when you need them to be.
Setting the aperture and shutter speed is very easy with the iPhone App. How you could work that into your computer is not something I can tell you.
You can also hook the shutter up to your computer (Windows or MAC) via USB and control it that way as well.

Hi,
I didn't know about the X-synch system. With what I've seen, that's a simple trigg interface, just to do what I need. Is it really that? (that's difficult to find info on it)
In case, It seems that it's THE shutter I want.
Bob, thank you very much for your help.

X-sync is normally a switch on the shutter that is normally open and closes when the shutter is open. The flash provides the voltage and fires when current flows when the switch closes. This convention has existed for decades. I don't know specifically about Rodenstock e-shutters. You can measure the X-sync action with an ohmmeter on a mechanical shutter; you can fire a flash using a paper clip. Use common sense so that you don't damage anything.

From my latest info, the shutter will be available in march, but the start date of sale has been already reported few times.
I've also heard that the fastest shutter speed will be reviewed lower with 1/125s max, by Rodenstock. (just like Sinar eShutter)
In term of trigger, what i'm searching for is an input trigg which fires the shot. (in addition with the X-synch). X-synch gives signal to external for synchro, like flash. But how can I input any signal to synchronize the shutter?

That's good news about the eShuttters. Still I have a pile of the rollei electronic shutters and would love to have a small controller for them - something like a rollei lens controller S without any features except shutter and aperture controls and about 1/10th the size.

American Traffic Systems did for their red light cameras when they still used film. They made their own controller so you might contact them. Otherwise the Rollei repair center in Fairfield/Caldwell, NJ might be willing to tell you how. Their name is Danielle Service and the owner is Carmen.
