I now have thumbnails not loading in my main photo page and gallery pages. You can click on the missing thumbnail to get the image opened but even clearing the cache has not retrieved these missing thumbnails. Two of the images are missing thumbnails in my Portraits & Headshots Gallery. Attaching a screenshot here.02_09.2018_MissingThumbnails.jpg.bc94c99dcb80c50f0856b91d245cdba5.jpg

Note: As it turns out, there's a 10,000-character limit on posts, and the list in the previous version bumped into that limit. I've copied the list here into the first three posts to allow room for future expansion, and I've added a 4th post as a blank space holder in case another category becomes important in the future. So look for "Really big problems" in this post, "Bugs" in the next, and "Omissions and design issues" in the third. I'll continue to monitor comments in the previous version, but it would be more convenient if you placed your bug reports here, instead.

There have been a lot of reports in a variety of threads about things that don’t work right or important functions that appear to be missing from the new site. I think it would be useful to have a centralized list of the problems found. This might help ensure that the issues of concern to us are not lost among the other comments in all those other threads, and it also might make it easier for the development team to provide feedback on the status of the fixes that are being worked on for particular problems.

On this thread, post brief descriptions of issues you have encountered. I will try to keep an updated master list in this opening post so that multiple posts for the same issues aren’t necessary. Please keep the posts limited to bug or omission reports. I’ll be removing posts that are off-topic, but you can post discussions or suggestions on Bug Reports Part 2: the discussion. If you have a post that goes missing from this thread, simply repost it to the companion thread.

The list so far (issues we know are being worked on are in blue; those that have been solved are in green; modifications or recent additions are in magenta, need more info in red, and if it's in olive it's a feature, not a bug):

REALLY BIG PROBLEMS

Flickering refresh problem on ios devices (appears to be solvable by deleting cached redirects on device--see How-to thread)

Visitors to the site who are not logged-in members see only thumbnails in Forum posts (like No Words)--looks bad for a photo site

Screen names have been lost (partially solved by How-to #30; still a problem for anyone?)

Comments entered onto the Critique page during the evening of 22Feb disappeared (comments lost but issue solved; won't reoccur)

Unknown # of members cannot log onto site due to 403 error: forbidden request (now reported solved on 3/3/17!)

Can't see photos in one's own non-public galleries (solved with Library view option)

Important information in old database now not accessible:

all old messages have disappeared (update: they are in database and will eventually be restored)

equipment lists and serial numbers not available (update: they are in database and will be provided)

overall gallery comments are gone

equipment details (camera & lens type) that were entered with each photo uploaded to portfolio are gone

When adding text to the bio what I type does not save correctly. Everything comes out on one line where as I cannot create separate lines of text without it coming out in one long sentence?

I can login, but I cannot view my own portfolio nor can I view the galleries including the focused views such as Editor's Picks, Trending, Photo of the Day/Week, etc... I get a spinner for all of these attempts to view images. I can access and read the Canon EOS thread, read posts, and view the photos in the weekly messages including the 2/15/18 post.

Mick, aside from the difficulties you mentioned, it appears that the uploader isn't working at all. I tried viewing images for critique without any success, and had the same degree of success trying to upload images to my portfolio. The exif data uploads, but not the images themselves.

ADMIN, please jump on this!!!!!!

Glenn, we're floundering here. Can you please get your techies to work on this?

It's President's Day. The likelihood of anything happening on such a holiday is slim. I'm not saying that's a good or bad thing or a reasonable or unreasonable thing for a site such as this, but it seems to be the way things have been here for a very long time.

Glenn is in Disneyland, and our OPS guy is also in Disneyland maybe even down the hall, no school this week, I'm trying to get a hold of them. Of course all this trouble would come up right when they leave.

Doesn't it occur to them that someone should be minding the store in the event that key personnel are absent? What about both of them not being out at the same time?

Is anyone else seeing lengthy times for featured photos loading? 1+ Minute to do it and no indication during that time that anything is happening. Usually I see a "Waiting for Photo.Net" message in bottom of the browser. Here you see nothing. Tried it after clearing the browser cache but it was worse (Chrome). Firefox was slightly better but not by much. Other sites are not a problem with large image counts loading. I think you may need some indexing or query optimization in this area on your database.

Also can't leave a comment on a photo by clicking on the dialogue box to "Leave a Comment". Have to click-on "View Comments" first to leave a comment.

Gallery navigation is painfully slow and clumsy when especially after leaving a comment on a photo, I usually have to return to the beginning of the gallery to get down to where I left off.

Still not a good way to run a business or a commercial site.

I agree, but it is what it is - the world "on line" is supposed to be 24/7. With smaller organizations that is sometimes just unaffordable, either financially or in terms of wear and tear on the staff. Those of us who are "here" as customers are here for various reason - otherwise we would have voted with our feet / wallets. It will eventually all work out, IMO. I just believe it is good to give folks a break.

I think some of us vote with our voices. That way, we get to stay around and reap the benefits we still find here while letting administration know what the problems are and how disturbing they can sometimes be.

It will eventually all work out, IMO.

The redesign was launched over a year ago, and I see no evidence that it will all work out, to be honest. I see very sincere trying and that's certainly a plus. But my sense is that PN will always have more bugs than it should and will always seem a bit amateurish compared to other sites. Why, just today, I was unable to post for a couple of hours because I got the old error message about waiting 191 minutes. Thought that was solved, but obviously there's still something amiss. None of that means there's not a bunch here for me.

I just believe it is good to give folks a break.

I do, too. I think, ideally, there would be a balance of criticism and patience and praise. I don't claim to have achieved that balance and it wouldn't hurt for me to try a little harder. I haven't heard a whole lot of criticism from Phil over the years, so I'm willing to give HIM a break here, since sometimes the frustration level does get a bit much to where you just want to voice it out loud..

Before the current owners bought this site and put Glenn in charge this was a vibrant and diverse community of talented photographers sharing their vision and knowledge on a platform that was functional and conductive to the exchange of images and ideas. We are now left with a few dozen active members in the forums with next to no activity in the critique and photo upload side of the site functioning on a platform that barely hobbles along on a good day. Managment drops by once a week for a few minutes, otherwise the site runs on autopilot. Clearly the owners have given up on the site, as have the majority of the past members. I suppose that If I had only arrived at PN in 2015 I would have a more generous view of the present situation, however I have been around long enough to remember the possibilities that this site had under sound managment on a stable platform. On a good day the NW forum still works so there is always that. The NW forum was what originally got me posting here.
