httpwww.photo.netdevere
Hi. I've been experiencing vignetting with my 24mm Elmar-M lens. I'm using it on an M240. The lens is 6 bit coded and I have lens detection set on automatic so I'm pretty sure I have the lens correction set properly. My other Leica lenses are from the 60s and 70s and don't seem to exhibit this problem- including my 35mm summicron. Anybody else have this experience? Is it a characteristic of this particular lens design? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.
Greg M
For a while I was using the 24mm Elmar and 18mm Super Elmar duo until picking up the 21mm f3.4 Super Elmar. In none of the images I captured using the 24mm Elmar with my M262 did I ever notice what I would consider significant corner shading. This first image is close to wide open. Cannot remember exactly and the setting noted in the EXIF, even with 6 bit coded lenses, isn't always accurate since there's no electronic communication going on between lens and body.. It's quite a good lens.. Of course, in a lot of landscapes, seeing any corner shading isn't alwasy going to be easy if there's something "there".. httpwww.photo.netdevere
Thanks Greg. Nice images. The lens does seem to be quite sharp. I think I'll stick with it for a while and see what happens.
john_shriver
Leica specs show just over one stop of vignetting by the corners, even stopped down to f/8. (I presume you have the ASPH.)
Greg M
Here are some B&W conversions from earlier today with the 24mm f3.8 ASPH at f5.6, from the M240. It's one spectacularly sharp lens.
httpwww.photo.netdevere
I think I found the problem. I'm embarrassed to say the uv filter had become loose and actually started to rattle around under the lens hood. I tightened ir up and the problem has not reappeared. The lens does seem very sharp as well as compact.
