Aperture problem

Recommended Posts

All of a sudden, I can't get my photos to transfer from my Canon 80D to Aperture. I've tried unplugging, force quitting, restarting, a different cord, etc. to no avail. I have Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.3.

I've also tried importing to Photos, which I haven't used till now, then 'sharing' with Aperture but only the JPG got transferred.

Sometimes no photos load at all, sometimes a few, sometimes all appear in Aperture but when I click on import, nothing happens. Tried numerous times.

Anyone know what the problem might be?

I don't use Aperture, but your problem could relate to the new 'features' of High Sierra as aging software goes flaky...

[Next MacOS version, BTW, will probably break most legacy software like old versions of PhotoShop, Aperture, etc.]

Try using an external card reader and simply dragging the images on the card over to the main HD, then into Aperture.

I too am having similar troubles with Aperture when running High Sierra. JDM's suggestion of dragging files from a card reader to the main hard drive and then importing to Aperture works. Also, I find that unchecking "do not import duplicates" in import preferences, despite the fact that that there may be no duplicate files on the card, works when I am using a card reader.

My bigger problem is that the plugin NIK Color Efex no longer works in either Aperture or Photoshop CS5 when running High Sierra. Other NIK plugins work, such as Silver Efex, as well as other plugins, such as Topaz filters, PTlens, and PhotoKit sharpeners. However, Color Efex is probably my most often used plugin, so I want to back.

I use a 2010 Mac Pro with one hard drive running High Sierra, and a duplicate hard drive running Sierra (plus two other HD's on the computer for other tasks and backup). I have gone back to using the HD running Sierra while I try to sort out the Color Efex problem.

An update to my last posting. I tried reinstalling the NIK collection, and now Color Efex and the other plugins work in Photoshop CS5 and Aperture!

The glitch in Aperture that I can not use the "do not import duplicates" function when importing files remains if I import files directly from a card reader. If I first copy files to the hard drive and then import, the "do not import duplicates" function works properly.

I am now cautiously optimistic that I can live with High Sierra. If I were not worried about security updates, I would continue to stick with Sierra OS.

Updater to update. Everything was working fine in High Sierra, even including the "do not import duplicates" problem which, for some unknown reason, has sorted itself out. Was working, that is, until I tried printing from Photoshop CS5, using my Epson R2880 printer. Selecting printing options crashes Photoshop. So, I am now stuck with switching back to my other HD running Sierra OS when I want to print from Photoshop.

Has the OP solved his Aperture problem?
