Wouter Willemse
Dust Removal ON I don't have an Epson, but for B/W film, usually you need to keep Dust Removal off?
Bill Bowes
Hello everyone. Wouter, I do not fully understand the scanning process, but have never seen a difference Dust on or off. There is a difference when ICE is on, and I believe that is for color negs. I just know that the settings I listed for Brad have worked in both my V600 & V800 machines. If it does not break, do not fix it !! Aloha, Bill
Wouter Willemse
I won't claim to be a scanning expert either, and features aren't named identical in every piece of software. Usually, dust removal and ICE are the same thing, and ICE doesn't work for B&W film. Talking of scanning, I received anti-newton ring glass inserts for the filmholders of the Canon 9000F scanner, which I used for 120 film. The difference in the scans is staggering, at least to my eyes. It added another bit of money while I was trying to keep things cheap but at least this way, it does a bit more justice to the negatives. So I spent the rainy sunday re-scanning a lot of them :-) Yashica D, Acros 100 in Rodinal 1:50.
rossb
Kodak Ektar with my Mamiya 645e. Foggy day out there. I used a 10 stop ND. I applied for a permit to hike the John Muir Trail and was awarded a permit in the lottery. Its a 220 mile backpacking trip from Yosemite NP to Mt Whitney. I am going to shoot color on the trip and probably Superia 400. My start date is July 29.

Bill Bowes
Hello again everyone. Wouter, I use the Better Scanning film holder for MF negs in both of my Epson scanners. These have ANR glass inserts. I also use ANR glass inserts in the Epson 35mm neg holders. Having used enlargers "forever", I rebelled at Epson's use of negatives with the emulsion up. . Why pass the image THRU the film substrate ?? ALL my scan's are now done with the emulsion DOWN & the ANR glass on top, just like the "old fashion" way when in a wet lab. It is necessary to adjust the Epson carriers with tape to get the focus spot on, but this is only a one-time effort. . . about 45 minutes. I also scanned this way with the 4x5 negs, the Epson 4x5 plexy ANR "glass" insert replaced with a "real" ANR piece of glass. Aloha Bill
