I have just (Jan 14) extended my subscription for a further year. Instead of extending my subscription I was welcomed as a new member with the premium expiring Jan 14 next year. For me it isn’t too much an issue as my subscription expired on the 22nd anyway, but for someone extending more in advance, they could lose out.
