johngalore
Are Kowa cameras any good, particularly the Kowa SEr? And is there anywhere that I can my SER repaired? I can't seem to find any info about them online besides the user manual.
m42dave
Kowa's optics are generally considered to be quite good, but their 35mm SLRs did not have the best reputation for reliability. Leaf-shutter SLRs are complex and often difficult to fix. It depends on what is needed, but even it you could find a repair shop to work on it, the cost would likely well exceed the value of the camera. John Farrell
I second Dave's comment. I tried to get a Kowa SER working, years ago when I first started tinkering with cameras. The mechanism is very complex. A rotating spring loaded ring, at the base of the lens, controls the diaphragm, mirror, and shutter timing. I was unable to get the camera working.
