craxionne
Hello. I have just bought a FM2 with the DK3 eyecup. However, when I tried to screw it in the rubber that surrounds the viewfinder peeled off. When I searched on the web I have found out that I needed a replacement eyepiece finder. Now that the eyepiece rubber fell off, and there are no threads anymore, do I need to get it fixed, or will the eyepiece finder fit without the threads? Thanks. ben_hutcherson
The FE/FM series typically have a chrome ring surrounding the eyepiece. I forget exactly how this is attached, but it would be exceptionally uncommon for it to be missing. The chrome ring has threads on the inside to accept the screw-in eyepiece. This part NikonFinder Eyepiece for FM, FE & FA Series Cameras (Replacement) is the plain "rubber bumper" ring that surrounds the eyepiece. As an eyeglass wearer, I prefer this to a larger cup as the eye relief is fairly low on FM and FE series cameras(plus the Nikkormats, F, F2, and non-HP F3) and the bumper protects my glasses while still allowing me to get close enough to see MOST of the viewfinder. If you want a full eyecup, you need a DK-3. NikonDK-3 Rubber Eyecup for FM3a, FM2, FE2 & FA Cameras

The result was that the eyepiece wasn't held on as well as otherwise, and at some point got loose and fell off. After buying a replacement, I decided not to risk it again. I don't remember if I had the eye relief problem mentioned, though I do wear glasses. -- glen
