q.g._de_bakker
<p>Nope.<br> The comment probably relates to an Arca-type thingy.<br> The 45144 is high enough to allow the lever to drop low enough on any tripod head, no matter how large.<br> You see, some products are well thought-out, others aren't. ;-)</p>

q.g._de_bakker
<p>P.S.</p> <p>If anyone has one of those 45144 lying around doing nothing, being useless with a broken spring or something like that:<br> i'm looking for parts to repair one of mine that took a tumble (tripod fell down a flight of stairs, landed on the thingy. Still works, though the front end took a bashing and had to be removed 'surgically'. Now i can slip the camera all the way out again at the front. Needs a new front cover and stop key.)</p>
WAn
<p>Just a feedback 1.5 years later: at that time a had a chance to buy both, the old one (photo above by Paul Newthaler) and the relatively new one (<strong>#45144</strong>). Tested both with very heavy tripod. Both work ok. The new looks somewhat prettier, the old combines an austere look with the great functionality (the combo I always like).<br> Since then I do use them both alternately :)<br> thank you!</p>
daniel_pinder
I'm vexed by this problem, too. The Arca-Swiss-type QR system has become a world standard, and furthermore, the bottoms of the Hasselblad Quick Release/Coupling clamps do not have the type of fittings that robustly connect to, say, a RRS ballhead shaft, just a 3/8 and 1/4" threaded socket with no torque control. I can see three solutions as it stands, should you not want to add bulk to the underside of your camera or switch all your industry-standard equipment to the proprietary Hasselblad system: 1. Replace the foot on your Hasselblad with the ClearSight foot ($60). 2. Replace the foot on your Hasselblad with the Markins P60H foot (should be $55, but not really in production for some reason. Found on eBay for $130) 3. Keep your Hasselblad foot and buy a Hasselblad Quick Release clamp and fit it to any generic Arca-style plate. This way, you can keep all your other camera systems on Arca, then attach the easily-removable Hasselblad QR clamp to any of your existing Arca/RRS/Markins/Kirk ballheads when you're shooting with your Hasselblad. It's two more layers of metal, but at least it's on your tripod and not stuck to the underside of your camera. A kludge to be sure, but maybe the path of least resistance? Ed_Ingold
So, are you guys saying that the factory foot on, say, a 503cw will fit on an arca-style receiver? I don't think you're saying that, but just checking. My understanding was that the hasselblad quick release stuff was hasselblad-only compatable. No. The built-in plate on an Hasselblad V body is proprietary, and requires an Hasselblad clamp. I use a Really Right Stuff plate, as recommended by RRS, with an RRS head (or any Arca-style clamp, like Kirk). You don't specify which tripod head you are using, but Arca-style QR is the most secure and compatible with any camera, given the appropriate plate. The RRS skate has a lip which attaches to the Hasselblad bottom plate and (mostly) prevents rotation. The plate has an elongated hole, so you can move it so the lip fits tightly. Rotation is not an issue with a square format camera, but it's nice to keep things straight.
