Epson V850 Scanner- Discontinued? Or Just Low Stock?

I have noticed many outlets having low or no stock on this scanner. One computer outlet lists it as discontinued. Epson's website still shows it as current. Anyone know the status on this unit? Is it going to go bye bye soon or was that one store incorrect? Pricing on this thing has crept up in Canada the last 2 years. One site shows it at $1550 Canadian, which is way more then Epson lists it for.

They're not strong sellers. Many probably got tired of "new" models, price hikes and no real performance improvements over previous versions. Refurbs are another option:

Wow. That's a good price on the refurb unit. I wonder how dependable it would be compared to new?

My understanding is that Epson just produces them in batches. There isn't enough demand to keep a production line constantly producing them. We may be entering a gap when stock is low but they aren't yet at the scheduled time to produce another run.

 

I know a number of people who have had great luck with the refurbs. Many of the units are returns that were barely used and didn't actually have problems. A few people have had problems but Epson was quick to ship out an exchange.

Of course now the refurbed units are sold out. Someone on here took the opportunity to get one.

It seems to be in stock everywhere here in the UK at the equivalent of around $1100 CA. The V800 is available as well at about £100 UK cheaper than the V850.

 

It's a shame that Epson just plain lie about its 'optical resolution', and don't appear to know the difference between dpi and ppi.
