XG-1 & 135mm. .

Hello everyone. I know the XG-1 is not "100%" manual, but I think there are enough people around this forum who "use" them. The XG-1 was gifted to me several years ago & now I wish to put a 135mm tele on it. Lens is a Minolta MD Celtic 135mm, F3.5. Will these two match up? Thanks ahead of time. Bill (the Fed guy)

They'll match just fine. FYI, I seem to recall that the Celtic lenses were their economy lenses.

They work fine together.

Any hint's to the "high price spread" 135's for the camera. . . just got a "wad" of cash !!! Bill

Any (used) manual focus lens, except for the top of the line largest aperture lens, should be less than about USD 20.

You will have a nice combination for medium tele photos. The Celtic 135mm f3.5 might have been Minolta's entry level 135 but it is capable of high quality results. Back in the late 70's Minolta even included it in a kit which consisted of SRT 200, 50 or 45mm f2, Electro 25 flash, Celtic 135mm f3.5 , and carry bag. We sold a lot of those at the family camera shop.

Way back when my wife bought me my first camera as a gift which got me started in photography. It was the Minolta XG-1 with 45 mm f/2 pancake lens and 135mm kit lens. Nice lenses.

If that 135 Celtic has the same optical formula as the 135mm 3.5 MD, you are going to be delighted with the results.

AFAIK. the MD and the Celtic have the same formula. Usually the MD will have the more advanced coating (at least early ones) and the exterior looks fancier.
