I'm not on the tech side, but I believe we've outgrown our current server set up and that is what is causing this recurring issue. DevOps is looking into our current config and I'm hoping it reveals that this is our problem. My theory is that we're maxing out on our concurrent MySQL connections. I will stay on them to either confirm or deny it.

Having to try three times is not a charm. It's a disaster. For me, it often requires more attempts and a relaunch of my browser. That said, yesterday I had no trouble at all. But with PN, I keep Scarlett O'Hara's words always close at hand: "Tomorrow is another day."

Glen, I thought PN was using Cloudfront with EC2. Is our 'server' not EC2, but a dedicated (and non-scaleable) blade(s) somewhere like Rackspace hosting the LAMP stack?

If so, has the dev team considered EC2? We did this shift from dedicated about 9 years ago at qrz.com (which runs XF also) when I was the GM there. It worked well, as the consideration we needed to meet was over a million SQL lookup calls every day--and this was in addition to the forum side of operations.

P.S. Thank the team for implementing the "Timeline" functionality. I have configured for redirection straight to the forum and it makes me a happy camper...

SUCCESS - FINALLY. Just thought I'd share the solution I found this am. I use Firefox as a browser on a Linux system, and until recently had no problem uploading images to the No Words foum. Starting about a month ago I could no longer do so, the button to attach images would black out. I tried resetting my Firefox preferences without success. This am I disabled PN's use of the Flash uploader and everything instantly worked again. Obviously Firefox and PN's flash uploader don't like each other.
