Julio Fernandez
Another great post, Marc. So Mr Back, the lens expert, felt that the focal plane shutter was dying down; focal plane was on the way out; behind-the-lens leaf shutters were the future. Now I see why the dead evolutionary branch of the Contaflexes, Bessamatics and Retina Reflex types happened, while Exaktas and Pentaxes were going strong and the F was coming. Eisenstaedt vs. Feininger is a high point. Personally I feel closer to the great Alfred. The lens list is interesting for comparing relative prices. The Elmar was cheaper than I would have thought. marc_bergman1
Julio - I am going to look for more articles on SLRs using leaf shutters vs focal plane shutters. There are advantages to both types and it will be interesting to see why one became dominant. Edited October 17, 2017 by marc_bergman|
