fotolopithecus
Another possibility I've been considering is the A7RMK2 , but today I came across a YouTube video that mentioned some kind of corrosion issue related to the heatsink in the camera. This seems to have been about a year ago, and I'm wondering if there was any truth to it, or if it's an issue Sony took care of. Thanks
Ed_Ingold
Despite much repetition of an allegation of a design flaw, the Youtube video does not present any compelling evidence that the heat sink attracts moisture. The presenter's lack of scientific knowledge is exemplified by his claim that the heat sink is cooler than ambient, hence condenses moisture. That is not how a passive heat sinks work, which is to conduct heat from a higher temperature to an area of lower temperature, but still higher than ambient. Sony cameras are not perfectly weather sealed, and the accessory shoe is a known point of weakness. It is advisable to keep the cover in place whenever the shoe is not in use, and to have a spare cover or two (they're easily lost) with you. Condensation can occur in humid climates if cameras are brought outside from an air-conditioned area. When traveling, I leave my gear zipped in its bag overnight as insulation. The same weather sealing will keep moist air out, and there is little empty space inside the body to act as a reservoir of moist air. fotolopithecus
Thanks Ed, that sounds reasonable.
Ed_Ingold
Covers for the flash shoe are easily lost. I bought a couple of spares, just in case. I also have a spare eye cup or two, having damaged one beyond repair on a recent trip (rubber ripped off from putting the camera in a backpack).
