donald_miller5
With a lot of street photography it is just a case of having a camera at the right moment. I guess one could say that the best photograqph is the one that was not taken because the shutter failed to work.

I guess one could say that the best photograqph is the one that was not taken because the shutter failed to work. I wouldn't take this very far. I see a lot of street photos of what are very unique or interesting events that are still mediocre photos. A good street photographer's photo will usually show some degree of insight by the angle, perspective, exposure, post-processing he or she chooses. Just having a camera may sometimes, but not usually, be enough . . . for me. We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!

Of course, just having a camera does not make one a street photographer (i hope this doesn't digress into what makes a street photographer). I am just saying that there is that element where something occurs that was not anticipated (even for a street photographer) in front of a good photographer that they take advantage. One of my favorites is Elliot Erwit and I know he has a lot/most that are set up but some of my favorites are ones that catch subjects that seem to appear in front of him out of nowhere like the 2 men street fighting, The Long Island Rail Road car which I rode daily and the hard hat in the parade. As I understand he just walked around NYC for funsies. My brother in law in the 70's was taking photography and his best talent was spotting the most pedestrian images that no one could understand why he took them spontaneously but after processing were great

I see a lot of landscape/nature photos of what are very unique or interesting events that are still mediocre. Why would street photography be any different? Unless street photographers are particularly wicked folk;) Sometimes I feel a bit wicked. .
Allen Herbert
Its not just a case of pressing the big button and hoping for the best. Its about perception and the seeing.

bob_bill
Happy accident, post its. I had a pair of sandals that were the benefit of that creation. Topless sandals. Just a sole. How did they stay on, post it glue. It lasted about a year til dust, dirt and grass clippings stopped it sticking. Was fun to watch people trying to casually look as they puzzled on how the stayed on. Benefit, no tan line
