ben_hutcherson
I picked up a 50mm and 150mm lens for my SQ-A system a while back, and only got around to testing/using the 50mm this past weekend(fortunately I was just poking around in the front yard-I'm glad I found the problem now). In any case, with the shutter mounted on the camera, pressing the shutter release would only result in a faint "click" and seemingly nothing would happen. The camera would lock up, though-i.e. I couldn't advance the film or anything of the sort. As soon as I would start to remove the lens, the camera would complete the firing sequence-i.e. the mirror and secondary shutter would pop up, and I could then advance to the next frame. With a little bit more playing, I couldn't manage to get the shutter to fire off camera. I'm well acquainted with the procedure to do so, as sometimes my MF format equipment can sit a bit so I always release the shutters on all lenses at the end of a shooting session. I'll also add that the camera battery is good. Just to be sure, I tested my 80mm and 150mm with my Calumet shutter speed tester, and they are within 1/3 stop at all speeds down to 8 seconds. So, based on this, I know that the problem must be in the lens. In any case, when I press the lock in the bayonet and try to push on the two pins, I find the pins seemingly stuck just a little past the green dot(right even with the start of the red line). I can pull them BACK to the green dot, which is only a small movement, but that's the most I can get out of it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I might do to get this shutter working? I know Bronica equipment is cheap and plentiful enough now that I'm probably better off buying another lens than I am having this one fixed(if it were a 40mm, it might be a different story). As it is, I count it as a freebie since both this lens and the 150mm were thrown in with an ETRS kit that I virtually stole(3 bodies, 4 backs, 50mm, 2x75mm, 150mm and some other goodies) so I figure I don't have a lot to lose. andyfalsetta
Is the body an SQ or is it an "a" or "ai"? I'm asking only to see if you get a different result if you lock the mirror up before trying to fire the shutter. I know you shouldn't have to do this but just a diagnostic step I guess.
