david_clark18
Hi all, I am helping some people with a photography project next month, they all have computers but limited software I would like to be able to give them access to anything that is legitimately available free and NOT just a 30 day trial!! I understand CS2 you used to be able to download for free for a while but think that has stopped has anyone got any other suggestions? Any help appreciated! Ed_Ingold
You can download nearly any Adobe product for a free, 30 day trial. Photoshop CS2 is not and never was free except on a trial basis. Just because you can use a stolen key without registering the product with Adobe doesn't change things. Leslie Reid
I've heard good things about GIMP, though I've never used it. For low cost (though not free), Serif's Affinity Photo is excellent and includes a raw converter, which GIMP apparently doesn't.
Richard Williams
Adobe still makes CS2 available for download together with installation keys, but as they explain on the page, it is only intended for people who already hold an appropriate licence: Download Adobe Acrobat 7 and Adobe Creative Suite 2 products (might need to disable Javascript to read that page without being redirected to a generic login page). There would in any case be various issues with running it on modern systems, including compatibility problems (especially on Macs) and serious unpatched security holes that would make a networked computer open to a range of attacks (especially on Windows). For free options, you might look at GIMP or (on Windows) Paint.NET. Ninite is a good way to install both on Windows without risking malware: GIMP - GNU Image Manipulation Program Paint.NET - Free Software for Digital Photo Editing Ninite - Install or Update Multiple Apps at Once
david_clark18
Sorry Ed I don't think you understood my question and I certainly wouldn't suggest you recommend using stolen keys with photoshop on a forum! Thanks for the replies, I am playing about with GIMP just now and will have a look at the others as well. I did try Serif a while back and didn't like it but will have another look. Jochen_S
Darktable became available for Windows too and seems to work. For previewing and binning Irfanview and Faststone Image viewer seem handy. Adobe Camera RAW is free and downloading Microsoft Camera RAW codec pack makes sense too. Tony Parsons
The latest version of FastStone has useful editing capabilities and is totally legally free. Works well with RAW as well as JPEG.

Darktable is one of the better free processing software. It runs on several platforms too. Just because you can use a stolen key without registering the product with Adobe doesn't change things. The key is not "stolen". It is provided on the Adobe site. Adobe recommends not installing "outdated" software, but does not forbid it.

Provided to registered (licensed) users. Not everyone as Richard correctly points out.
