Leslie Reid
With just a few more guidelines, this could be a good weekly thread. I think that would be fun--I'm particularly enjoying the sense of participating in a wide-ranging conversation in images, and the suspense of seeing what direction the conversation is going to head in with the next post. How about some brainstorming on what kinds of guidelines would be useful? The original guidelines were to respond to the most recent image, and to wait for at least four new images before posting again...do these seem reasonable? There's a bit of leeway on responding to the most recent image, since others may be posting at the same time and since it's a new kind of thread. I had also suggested noting which image is being responded to, and what aspect of the image triggered the response--useful? As a poster I find it convenient to add that info since it allows me to go a bit broader on the interpretation without appearing to introduce a non sequitur into the conversation. Other suggestions? It also occurs to me that this is the sort of thread that may not need to be rejuvenated every week, since it could theoretically go on forever...I'm interested in seeing what the lifespan of this one looks like. If interest wanes quickly, then a weekly restart might work well, but we'd probably need to ensure that only one free-association thread is active at a time. Ideas?

Julie H
Leslie, photo.netters love rules — so they can break them. For example, I am getting sweet pleasure out of posting immediately after I just posted ... because I didn't wait for four other people to post! So I propose two rules for these threads: No puppies! The number 3 must not appear in any photographs! I love puppies and I like 3 better than 2 or 4 (and it's a better number of items, compositionally): I look forward to surreptitious puppies, and/or 3 puppies everywhere. DAM*!! Supriyo posted while I was typing, draining away half my joy. I only get to kind of violate the 4 post rule. Tim_Lookingbill
This is riffing off of Julie's first abstract "Conversation" image and the colors of the OP's graffiti image. It inspired me to combine two of my soap bottle bubble macro shots on a layer in Photoshop set to "Exclusion" blend mode with a gradient layer mask.
