Fuji Glow?

I started to notice photos taken with the Fuji 18-55mm zoom were exhibiting these nice flaring highlights. I thought I was onto something special with this lens but shining a flashlight through it revealed a raging case of mold! I had a nice talk with the folks at Fuji service but the main thing I remember from the conversation was "$300" (+/-). Now I don't have a lot invested in the lens, they were practically giving it away when the XE1 was discontinued, much as they are now with the XE2s. I would rather put the $300 toward a new prime like the 23mm F2. Is there any possibility of mold migrating from a lens to a camera if I continue to use it. I kind of like the effects in some photos while its undetectable in others.

Mold is propagated via spores, which are airborne. Therefore, it is possible for mold to move into your camera body. However, it is unlikely to have the same impact on photos that it does inside a lens. If mold grows on your sensor, then a cleaning will be needed. Not sure what else to worry about, but others may have a better idea, since I live in a very dry place, and mold is rarely a problem. (Even bread dries out before it can get moldy!)
