Movie - "Camera Store"

Recommended Posts

I came across a film on Netflix last night called "Camera Store", starring John Larroquette. It wasn't so much about photography as it was similar to "Glengarry Glen Ross" - a couple of older guys working in a mall camera store owned by an a-hole on Christmas Eve.

Watching it, I may have missed when it was supposed to take place but the Wikipedia page says 1994. A guy comes in with an Apple QuickTake, saying that it's the future of photography. There's an error in that scene because Larroquette takes a picture with it and there's a preview, which that camera did not have.

One confusing scene was a very nervous photojournalist bringing in "an F3 with a digital back" to rescue 4 photos. If he'd have said N90s it would have made some sense.

I enjoyed the film. No CGI, just acting, which is what I'm more interested in anymore.

Here's the trailer:

Yes, Tim - most people don't have any point of reference to the retail camera business anymore.

I came across the movie because I browse instantwatcher.com and the one sentence synopsis there included "with the digital revolution around the corner". That confused me a bit as far as figuring out the time period of the film because "digital revolution around the corner" said ~2000 to me. Christmas Eve 1994 was when film was still king and had many more years of superiority. I'm a Nikon guy and the F5, F100 and F6 were still to come!
