seanlee
So I bought a canon 5d mark ii but the shutter count is 630,000. Im deciding to either fix it or sell it. Im in Los Angeles, and i was wondering if anyone knows how much it would cost to replace the shutter. ALso how much this camera is worth as is just the body? rafikiphoto
Is the shutter not working?
Wouter Willemse
The quoted shutter actuations from manufacterers are statistical values, meaning on average, you can expect a shutter failure at x amount of actuations. THat doesn't mean you cannot get more, or less than that. It's pure statistical. So, if yours has 630k and is still working fine, use it till it breaks. And only once it breaks, check whether it's economical to repair or not.
Jochen_S
There seem a lot of Canon service partners all over the world. I'd ask one for a quote. Value? - Going rate minus something between 133 and 90% of the shutter repair? - One can argue both ways: Exchanging the shutter does of course result in a camera with a new shutter. OTOH it also means buttons & stuff that were already used through 2 shutters' lifes and might not last forever. Why should a service partner reset a shutter counter each time they replace shutters? - I want to know that the preowned vehicle In am buying has a million miles on it's clock, although it just got a 3rd engine. Best advice I can offer: Buy a 2nd body, wait till something breaks, ponder if it is worth fixing.
Marcus Ian
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it is broke, then consider fixing it. How much did you pay for it? If you got a horrendously good deal (and with a count of 630k, I'd expect a good deal), even with the cost of a new shutter, you still may have made out well... It's a very very good camera. ruslan
You must have noticed its condition - paint, scratches on the body, stains, dents... etc. Why did you buy it?
