pete latham
I still have a Canon 580EX flash unit from my DSLR days that has hardly been used, but I'm now using a FujiFilm X-T2 body. Is there any way I can trigger the Canon flash wirelessly and have TTL and HSS functions? Yes, I'd love to have my cake and eat it if I can. I thought Nissin AIR was going to solve my problem but a note on their site suggests there's no cross-platform ability using the Commander unit and an AIR receiver. Thanks ... bebu_lamar
TTL is a NO. Trigger wirelessly is possible. I think the 580ex has slave function and can be trigger by another flash. Otherwise most radio trigger system should work. The Fuji camera can only trigger a Canon flash but otherwise no other communication is possible. rodeo_joe1
Yes, you're stuck with manual only control of the flash and "dumb" triggers. TTL systems are strictly camera-make specific these days and totally non-interchangeable. My advice would be to sell the 580ex, which you should get reasonable money for, and look for a 3rd party flash option for the Fuji. YongNuo, Godox and Nissin make decent kit. WRT HSS: It's grossly over rated IMO. You lose about a stop of flash power as soon as the flash switches to HSS mode, and unless you're shooting a lot of stop-action stuff outdoors it has limited usefulness over just shooting at X-synch speed. William Michael
Related information which might be useful: the EOS Canon Off Camera Cord (and obviously third party knock-offs made for EOS Canon) have the same pin configuration as the Fuji Hot Shoe Flash. As far as I know Fuji do not make an Off Camera Cord - I use my Canon OCC with my x100s and my Fuji EF42 Flash Unit. WW
