bobpeters
Will a Schneider 47mm f/5.6 Super-Angulon XL Fit a Busch Pressman Model D? And if does fit, will it work correctly?
georg_s1
The Pressman-cameras were not made for such ultra-wide lenses. I've never tried to mount a super-wide-lens on my Pressman-D, but I'm 100 percent sure it can't work properly. The bed will not drop enough for the amazing angle of view of the 47XL and focusing might be close to impossible, except you want to take extremely close macro-shots will the bellows extended ;-)
PapaTango
Nope, they were not, Georg. The widest lens I could ever make work properly in a Busch was a Schneider Kreuznach 90 mm f/6.8 Angulon with the Synchro-Compur shutter. NOT THE "SUPER" ANGULON. The majority of these are marked Linhoff. These have a 152mm image circle, with an 80 degree coverage. NO ROOM FOR MOVEMENTS, and this is the practical limit for the pragmatics of the Busch design. Yes, the old "flat" Angulon 90/6.8 is probably the most "natural" choice for a wide-angle-lens for the Pressman D. If a nice copy of this classic lens is coming around the corner I might pick it up ;-) I've read elsewhere that some Pressman-D-shooters are using the Super-Angulon 90/8 with success (one used a Nikkor 90/8). It's obvious that those 90/8-lenses are way too large to be carried in a folded up Pressman.
jnanian
i would guess it wouldn't work well because the camera-box / body would be in every photograph. i used to use a 58mm brass barrel on a SG and it worked ... barely.. if you have the lens why don't you put it on and see if it works ? or if you can borrow / rent one do the same. if the lens doesn't go back far enough, make a recessed lens board .. ( foam core / mat board in a pinch works well ) good luck !
