Film Camera Week for August 4

Greetings everyone and welcome to our weekly film camera thread. As many photos as you like from your film camera. I'll start with some from my Ricoh KR5 Super II. Lens noted in caption. Film is Rolleipan 25 processed in HC110 dilution H.

Two more from my recent trip to Nova Scotia. We took the drive to the northernmost community in Nova Scotia, with the unlikely name of Meat Cove. The last six kilometres of the trip are on a dirt track that winds its way along the cliffs, valleys and inlets of the north shore of Cape Breton island. Meat Cove consists of a handful of houses, a "Chowder Hut" and a campground with the world's best view from the top of the cliff.

Thanks, Georg. There are only a few weeks in summer where the sun has that angle with the bricks. Most of the year the wall is not in direct sunlight at all. I'm trying to get a few more shots as the paint has faded badly over the last decade. It will probably be painted over with something new as have a few other wall murals. BTW, that little Tamron 35-70 is a joy to use. It even will focus to half life size at 70mm. I may try a few close focus shots the next time I use this lens.

Still waiting on some photos to come back from the lab. Until then, here are two of the dozen or so Zenits that I currently have.

 

First is a Zenit 212k, shown with the excellent MC Zenitar-K2 50/2. Underneath the sleek plastic exterior is the same tried-and-true mechanical Zenit platform, though with extended slow speeds down to 1/8 sec. Pentax K mount, but with stopped-down metering.

 

Next is a Zenit 12XS (also sold as the 15M and 21XS) designed and made in Belarus by BelOMO. Attached is the MC Jupiter-37AM 135/3.5. Like the 212K, the 12XS has a 3 LED meter display, though in this case the LEDs are at the top of the viewfinder. The same basic camera was also produced in Brazil for the Latin American market by BMA Indústria e Comércio Ltda. of Manaus, and sold as the Zenit 12XSL and 12PRO.

Thanks, James and Tony. I bought a bulk roll of the Rolleipan 25 a few years ago and never used a lot, but now am down to a few 24 exposure rolls from the bulk. There was no recommended time for this film in HC110 so I kept trying until I found what worked for me.

A couple of more shots from same roll of Rolleipan 25. I think I might have three rolls left. Rollei does market a RPX 25 but it is a different film.

Dave, wow, the Zenit 212K is a really unique looking camera. Like a hammer and sickle version of the Colani-designed Canon T90. I have never seen one "live", thanks for sharing!

Another one of my favorite classic theaters: the MacArthur; opened Christmas 1946 - had a huge single screen with about 1k seats. Over the years had its ups and downs but gained some notoriety on Dec.6th, 1979 hosting the world premiere of "Star Trek' The Motion Picture". In 1982 was brought out by 'Cineplex Odeon' which added 2 additional though smaller screens. In 1997 - with resistance from the community - was acquired by CVS. (Nikon one-touch/ 35mm 2.8 Gold 200). Georg--thanks. It's not a particularly common camera to find. I was lucky to get all the equipment shown like new.

 

The self-timers on both of these cameras are unusual. On the 212k, the timer is set by turning a knurled wheel on the side; when released, an analog display changes from green to red by means of a rotating disc behind the front panel. On the 12XS, the self-timer is set by turning the semicircular dial 180 degrees, then pressing the yellow button on the handgrip.

My wife and I went for a drive today. Stopped in at REI and bought a 2 liter Hydropak water container for hiking and we both got a Clean Canteen insulated metal water container. The hydropak can go inside the pack or tie onto the outside. It's a soft container so you can fold it up when not in use. Hydropak also makes water bladders that are reversible and they look real nice. My problem with that is when I am working at Pinnacles I stuff 4 water bottles in the bladder compartment to give to hikers when I find them in the High Peaks and without water. So there is not any room for the bladder. However when on a photo hike that area would be available so I may add a Hydropak bladder to my kit if I decide I want to. The good news is from now on I am going to be sipping nice ice water out there. That will be nice.
