Photavit camera shutter releases works only when film is loaded and one frame advanced.

First clock the Compur shutter

Next turn the film advance knob unti it stop, one frame advanced, the shutter release can be pressed down to activate shutter

At other time, the shutter release wont bulge.

Bolta Photavit with Pronto shutter. And time delay (delay control at bottom)

top speed 1/200 only vs Compur Rapid shutter 1/500

8 sec delay timer

The film advance knob is substantially different than the Photavit with Compur shutter.

This version, after each shot, the rewind knob must be PULL UP AND TURN, otherwise the knob

refuse to bulge.

This version Photavit has no sprocket drive, hence can use both perforated or unperforated 35mm film.

However, paperbacking is not necessary, the double exposure prevention is built into the film advance

knob, only after the shutter is released, the knob can be turned.

The Compur Photavit has no such problem

Operation procedure for Photavit with Pronto shutter

1) Film loading.

Open camera back by pull up a spin at the left had sidde, then lift off the entire back

Take out the two cassettes, if anu

2) Use Photavit film loader

Open one cassette by lift off the end cap, take up the spool, take a new 35mm film cassette, cut a film tongue

about 1.5 inch long, insert into the wide slot of the spool, push the film tongue throught the thin end of the

slot, pull it another inch, than wrap it around insert the free end into the wide end of the slot again, pull

the fillm tongue such that the film wrap arround the spool tightly, insert the film back into the cassette

close the cap, tape the top with a piece of Scotch tape to prevent it accidentaly comes loose.

put the Photavit cassette and 35mm film cassette into the Photavit film loader, put back the photovit

loader top cap , turn the winding knob until cannot be turn again, the film is fully loaded. Open the film

loader, cut the film,

Pull out 2 inch film, cut a narrow tongue, and insert it into the take up spool of another Photavit cassette

wrap the tongue around and insert the free end back into the wide end of the slot, pull tight .Put back

the top cap, make sure it fits tight and not slanted, otherwise it is difficult to put the cassette into the camera and even more difficult to take it out.

To put the cassette into the take up side of the camera chamber, pull the top part of the knob all the way

out, do not pull the whole knob up, other wise, the cassette cannot fit in.

put the other cassette into the right side chamber. wind the film winding knob to tighten the film.

Close the camera backl

To reset the counter to zero: pull the top part of the winding knob up, turn the lower part of the

knob such that 0 aligned with the index dot mark.

Take picture

Hold the winding knob top part and bottom part at the same time, pull it up turn clockwise a little such

that the retening pin clear the hurdle, the release the knob to let it falls back, turn clockwise until stop

clock the shutter. The camera is ready for first picture.

Go to next frame, do the same with winding knob pull up and turn to clear hurdle etc etc

Photavit leather case

There are no eyelets on the camera, so you cannot carry the camera with a strap, the camera is quite

solid and to heavy to put into pocket. You must carry Photavit with Photavit camera case

Photavit camera case usually comes in brown leather.

Some case is sold separately

Photavit cassette is all metal,(metal shell and metal spool), it is thinner than regular

35mm cassette, but lthicker than Tessina cassette. In short it is in between

regular 35mm cassette andd Tessina cassetter

Use Photavit film loader to load film from 35mm cassettte to Photavit cassette.

One 35mm 36 exp film yields about two rolls of Photavit film , each about 25

exposure 24x24format.

A complete Photavit boxed camera contains

1 Photavit camera

1 close up lens

1 lens cap

1 Photavit film loade

several Photavit cassettes.

Photavit cassette is much harder to find then Photavit camera it self.

You need a pair of Photavit cassettes, on for film supply, one for take up

It may be possible to use Photavit with only a take up spool, for that you

must load film in total darkness, by roll up film and put in the the take up chamber

cut a tongue and insert iit into the take up spool slit

The spool has a see thru slit, one side wide the other side narrow. Insert the

film tongue thru the wide slit out from the narrow slit, wrap the film around

and loop it back into the thick slit, close the cassette cap and tape with a piece of

Scotch tape
