Heat & my Ricoh GXR

Recommended Posts

Went to a club work day -- very hot (mid 90's), and the tasks lasted longer than anticipated. The GXR, my "If I need it" camera was in the open, partly shaded car. Just before I left, after 3 hours plus, I took several shots of workers & work. At first, the camera said the SDHC card had not been formatted, which of course, it had, and been used for a year and a half. Then after a couple of on off cycles, it worked -- but all the photos were over exposed. I drove for a few minutes, took another random shot -- perfect, as was the shot I took before the work session. I don't generally leave cameras unprotected in hot cars, but just curious if anyone has experienced anything similar. The camera is fine now.

Seems that film is more impervious to heat than electrical devises. I'm not saying that as a FVD comment, because I've had no experience with my DCAM suffering because of heat and I don't want to find out, but in the summer of 2012 I was in a situation when I couldn't get to my film, 21 rolls of Velvia left in the car and it was 112 outside, must have been 120 in the car maybe more, but the film survived! This amazes me.
