Progress Report as of 3/2

I've read the previous posts and I'm still having trouble uploading. I'm getting "upload failed" on most but not all tries.

Some were originally in RAW but they were converted to jpeg. The size is within the limits that PN1 called for. I'm on an Apple Mac Air. Using Safari. Never had any trouble uploading on PN1. Now, its less than a coin toss whether photos will upload or not. Any insights here? Thanks

Any insights here?

That sounds very frustrating. I haven't run into the problem (Safari & Chrome). I'm assuming you're uploading to your portfolio and not to the forums (true?). Are you uploading images one at a time or as a batch? Is there any pattern for which uploads are successful (e.g., the first or last in a set of individuals, or the first or last in a batch)? What size are you uploading? If it's large, you might try uploading a smaller version to see if that works.

I'm uploading one at a time. Photos are less than a megabyte in size. 1200 X approx 800 pixels, as was the limit on PN1. Every once in a while one uploads fine. The others not at all. I'm just wondering if there is a problem with photos that were shot in RAW first. But as I mentioned, the ones I've been trying to upload have all been converted to jpeg. I'm at a loss!

Try highlighting three or four photos and drag the whole group into "Upload". The problem is they don't stay in order. I like to have similar photos grouped together and there is no way to sort them after they land in "Photos". BTW, is there any way to quickly sort gallery photos so the newest go to the top of the gallery page?

photos that were shot in RAW first

I'm mystified, too. There's definitely not a problem with photos originally in RAW (all of mine were once RAW). The largest size I've been uploading is 800 pixel max dimension, and I've used both individual and multiple uploads. I use the "choose photo" option and haven't tried the drag-and-drop option yet. It's a pain in the neck, but it might be worthwhile to download the Google Chrome browser and try logging in with Chrome instead of Safari--sometimes things work with Chrome that don't with Safari (I'm on Safari 10.0.3). Meanwhile, I'll add this to the bug report thread.

Hi I had a problem loading photos that had been resized in Elements unless I chose Save for Web, which has the effect of removing EXIF data. Saving photos from Lightroom causes no upload problem at all. The new PN2 does not appear to be so size critical as before, but it would be good to see some recommended upload sizes.(all my originals start life as RAW).............Regards GC.

Since I didn't get a reply from Glenn on the reduced sharpness of uploaded images in forums thread I started, can someone confirm here that this is a bug or part of the new site's way of making images look better?

Is anyone else having this issue with the full size uploaded images posted in the forums? I haven't checked if this softening is being applied to images uploaded to member's galleries/portfolios.

I perceive a general improvement in the site and feel it is slowly getting better. I have a few of things that I think are still not up to par: 1) It is still too slow, loading pictures, going from page to page, and clicking links is rather tedious. 2) Can you not redesign the home screen at the very least? On my monitor the page is entirely taken up with a pointless image of the guy with the tripod. I virtually always have to scroll down whenever I get there. Why not use this space more efficiently and put the major links as icons there at the top? 3) There is still too much space IMO in the forum lists page. Again too much scrolling for me. I personally do not like all the scrolling I have to do in general, but it is OK, I guess (grumble, grumble), once you are in an actual forum. 4) Not that I really care, but will there be a time when we can enter metadata for our images manually in our portfolios?

All things we are working on. Speed continues to be a high priority and they are making incremental improvements throughout. You will see soon updates within MyAccount making sorting Galleries and photos within more to your liking. Home Page is also underway - we will have something to share soon that highlights photos from community much more as well as the content we're curating and creating. Forum spacing - I'll have a comment on that soon, but (of course) we're aware of the feedback on spacing and its on our lists.

Glenn, what about the softening of uploaded images? I posted a thread on it and haven't gotten an answer from administration? Can you confirm this is a bug or is this the way PN is going to alter uploaded images as some form of quality improvement?

I would think this would be a priority enough to get an answer on this. How come no one is answering me on this?

Tony - I think I figured out what's going on with the missing critiques--apparently they're listed according to the date they were uploaded to the site, not the date they were submitted for critique. "The final push" is indeed on the critique page, but since it was uploaded on 2 Feb, it landed on somewhere around page 30 of the Critique forum. I didn't check the other. Anyway, this morning I reported this as a bug in the bug report thread.

Has this situation been corrected?

We are going on month 3 to where I am unable to use this site - I have archived images ready for critique but if I post them, they show up on page 20 and beyond. The older images I have posted are so over pixelated they are not professionally shown. However I still receive advertisements, the latest from Joe McNally, there is no issue with the site dumping them into my in box. What exactly am I paying for?

I had an upload issue for a few days that resolved itself I think. Problem was uploading jpeg after editing in photoshop. Tried various sizes and no avail. I saved in lightroom and voila! Problem was solved. I just save as a jpeg copy. perhaps raw conversion in photoshop was the issue? Anyway its ok now. My images appear sharp enough to me on PN. To me they look the same as on my monitor here in full size. I usually upload 1000 pixels on the long side.

Just FYI and update about my previous post on uploaded soft images. It was my fault. I had my browser page views zoomed in by one degree because the forum text was kind of small. And that was improved by me getting closer to the screen viewing with my reading glasses. Returned Firefox zoom to default and both images and text look fine.
