Karim Ghantous
"The Sony a9’s sensor ranks as one of the best we’ve tested at base ISO, with consistently good scores for dynamic range and color depth, and exceptional results for noise." Sony A9 sensor tested at DxOmark: "one of the best we’ve tested at base ISO and exceptional results for noise" - sonyalpharumors Please keep in mind that DxO scores are not subjective and do not reflect personal tastes. The M9 did not score as highly as some CMOS cameras, even though its rendering is aesthetically superior to many of them.
Ed_Ingold
DXO reports are subjective to the extent the evaluate several attributes and weight them toward the overall rating. In reading their ratings, you must balance their priorities against your own needs and experience. DPReview finds the A9 has poorer low light capability, and a smaller dynamic range than the A7Rii. There is also a two-tiered gain system kicks in about ISO 800 (?). There is more noise at ISO 400 than at 800. The A9 is built for speed, which is good if you need it. Ferrari's don't need much room for luggage. It is only the second Sony full-frame camera to have backlit sensor technology, which has great promise. Robin Smith
When are you getting one Karim? DXO are not subjective although the overall rating is not what everyone thinks is very helpful, so I rarely ever consult it. Robin Smith
Karim Ghantous
Robin, I don't want one. I prefer smaller sensors for most of the stuff that I do. The narrower the angle of view I want, the smaller the sensor should be, IMO.
Sandy Vongries
I have both -- sorry, for me FX still rules. Even if / when it might not, Older Whiskey, Faster Horses, Younger Women and Nikon FX or film.
