scott_murphy5
My Nikon Scanner is having issues feeding the negative holder into the scanner. It will feed it for a short distance then it skips, which causes the scanner to kind of freak out so it does not complete the scan. Nikon does not want to work on it because it is so old. Does anyone know someone who will still service these scanners? I still use it a lot on my medium format stuff. Thanks in advance! Scott

glen_h
Just a guess, but the O-rings that feed the film might be too old. I have an LS-1000 and the SF-100 auto feeder to go with it. The feeder didn't work well, and I was told to replace the O rings. It still didn't feed reliably enough. -- glen
scott_murphy5
I took the scanner apart and noticed that the lubricant on both of the guide rails had gotten dried out in places, which was causing the negative carrier to stick. I removed the rails, cleaned them with 91% isopropanol and then re-lubricated them with high grade silicone grease. It now works like a champ again! JDMvW
Good to hear. I've had my CoolScan 9000 apart a couple of times. Just keep track as you go.... ;)

To remove the guide rails you need only remove 4 screws to remove the front plate and then the 4 brackets which hold the rails in place. They slide right out. Not very extensive disassembly that fixed a scanner that had become a $3000 paperweight!
