Basic Guidelines: In the strictest sense, nature photography should not include "hand of man elements". Please refrain from images with buildings or human made structures like roads, fences, walls. Pets are not permitted. Captive subjects in zoos, arboretums, or aquariums are permitted, but must be declared, and must focus on the subject, not the captivity. Images with obvious human made elements will likely be deleted from the thread, with an explanation to the photographer. Guidelines are based on PSA rules governing Nature photography which also cover the Nature Forum. Keep your image at/under 1000 pixels on the long axis for in-line viewing. Note that this includes photos hosted off-site at Flicker, Photobucket, your own site, etc Are you new to this thread? We post one image per week.

Good Morning,

This week my time with MiN comes to an end. I hoped to take us to the 4th anniversary, but it's not going to happen. There are currently too many pressures on my time and they are all pulling in different directions. That might be workable, but frustrations with the new site only add to the situation. I'm stepping away from photonet for awhile.

What happens next is up to you. Maybe someone else will want to open the door in the coolest room on photonet. It's always been an honor and a pleasure to be in your company. MiN is unique because of you. Thanks for coming to the party. I hope you keep it going. Cheers and best wishes.

Sorry to see you go Laura - thanks to you I have enjoyed learning about ubiquitous fungi and even seen beauty in slime molds!

I've discovered and photographed 70 different species in my 2.5 acre patch of woodland, here is one from last year and like most

remains unidentified. 8 stacked exposures of 2.5s at f/32 ISO 400.

Sorry to hear that you are leaving however I completely understand your frustrations with the new site. This MiN thread is about the only thing that keeps me coming back. I will hope that your time frees up in the future and PN gets its act together eventually. Until then all the best and thanks for all of your past efforts to keep the best thing about PN alive each week. Here is a red fox spotted alongside of my driveway about 20 minutes ago. I got some closer photos but they included the split rail fence behind the garden._MG_6561-Edit.thumb.jpg.ff25cc6c7889b37636a170d1833a3a1a.jpg

Laura,

Thanks for all your work on this forum. All the best for the future and look I forward to coming across your name in other naturalist and photographic communities.

It's sad. Laura, I have always enjoyed the poetry of your images, prose, and point of view. Please come back again soon.

I hope you will enjoy this little cub venturing out on its own while Dad is snoozing. - Shot at "Simba's Lion Rock" in Serengeti.

  • I hope you don't wander too far, Laura. There's so much more I need to learn about fungi. Thank you for your past devotion to this thread. I often marvelled at your discipline and enjoyed your weekly insights. Please drop by when you are able.

Just outside my nearest window. So many generations have been born and grown up here that I guess I'm just part of their landscape, too.

Laura,

I came here very late, having for a time neither camera nor computer. I have always enjoyed your postings, your gentle attempts to keep us unruly mob on the strait and narrow, and your unfailing patience. We'll all miss you, but may I leave you with a quote in Latin :

'Nil illegitimi carborundum'.

For those unversed in antient tongues, it means 'Don't let the (offspring of unmarried parents) grind you down'.

All the best

Tony

Laura - just a quick and very sincere thank you for your input over the last 4 years. You've made this forum meaningful, educational and fun - and attracted some very high quality contributions. I hope your life settles down to acceptable levels of pressure. If ever you're over this side of the pond, feel free to get in touch. Best wishes!

(As for me - I'm so completely disenchanted with the new PNet that I'm unlikely to be posting much if anything. A real shame.)
