Tracking Comments - My Portfolio>Your Activity is updated to reflect comments made in chronological order. Completed.

Glenn: While the individual comments on each photo are now in chronological order, the photos themselves are not. By that I mean the photos with the most current comments do not go to the top of the page. I still have to use my email notifications to insure I don't miss a posted comment, otherwise I have to scroll through the entire portfolio to see what's new. Please keep working on this and have the photos sorted to most current as well as the comments, both in Uploads and Other under the Your Activity page. Thanks... Mike

Glenn, good to see that you are listening.

1) I would suggest that only "unique views" are counted in their order in the Trending photos. If I display my own image several times, the number of views increases. This should not be the case because one (or with the help of friends) could easily cheat to and make the photo go up in the Trending photos.

2) Furthermore, I miss some form of rating. "Admires" is ok, but one has to open the image and "admire". I suggest that you create something similar to the old rating system with no graded response, with only the image displayed and only two buttons "Admire/Skip (or Not Admire)" and a Report button for offensive images.

At 1x.com they did that well, the images the users evaluate are anonymous to the rater and one has to wait for three seconds to be allowed to rate ("Publish/Not Publish") and then another image is automatically displayed to be rated. The users also earn points for their rating activity and comments (which may seem pointless, yet it may stimulate some to be active).

3) The Trending Photos do not seem to reflect the quality of images as much as the Top Rated Photos did in the old system (perhaps it is only my opinion, take it with a grain of salt). How is the order of photos determined?

4) I believe it should be possible to filter the Trending Photos using photo categories, like in the old system.

5) "Your activity" should contain a "Follow-up on comments"

Best regards. Peter

Glenn, although progress clearly is being made, there is one thing that I simply can't fathom. When commenting on an image, unless I've missed something, it seems impossible to add spaces and then at least one more paragraph. Mike Mancil made a suggestion in connection with Alf Bailey's most recent image posted for critique - i.e., using <br> to indicate a line space, but it didn't work when I tried it.

Peter, although I like your suggestion about "Admire/Not Admire," doesn't the current system at least imply this? If one doesn't click on the Admire button, to me, that's tantamount to a rating - of sorts. Personally, I'm glad to see numerical ratings having gone the way of the dinosaurs.

Michael, yes, the system implies that if you do not give an "Admire", then you select "not admire/Ignore, skip". What I suggest is to have a place for rating, viewing a sequence of photos one after another with nothing else displayed than the photo and controls of "Admire, Skip". The way thing are now, you have to open each photo's page to "Admire" it. It takes time and people do not have the time nowadays. The site has needed to increase the evaluation of photos (even in the old version), so that the users opinions on a photo are more reliably reflected in the order of Trending photos. Look at todays Trending photos, three photos of Franz Weber are on the top, with no "Admires", just many views - and not unique views, another problem I have written about in my post. If Admires are a way to showcase the best photos in the Trending photos, then there would need to be at least 10 Admires for a photo to make things meaningful and separate the chaff from the grain. IMHO

I'm seeing some really nice features slipping that are either new, or that I didn't notice, particular in navigation, however now and again, the site slows down and starts dropping my portfolio. Presently and its happened a couple of times my photos disappear as if the link between my interface and the material is broken. Is that a problem you are aware of? That's basic functionality. Maybe its when there's too much traffic or something, but it is a bit annoying when happening. Generally though, to me so many problems have been sorted, such as posting photos in threads from ones portfolio, and the image quality to me is greatly improved. Thanks so much for what must be a huge effort, especially with so many of us point out issues. But its really much better. Except.......where's my photos??

<p>I was brave enough to venture back into my portfolio and galleries this morning--having avoided such like the plague for some time now as the "bugs" are worked out. There are a number of things that are either strange or out of whack. Such as:</p>

~~~~~~~~~~~
 • The Portfolio landing page seems to have indiscriminately grabbed 25 photos from various galleries and single photos at random--and that is what it displays. This is very obnoxious and has nothing to do with how I would like to see the "first blush" exposure others experience with my work. Is this something that is being addressed, or is there another 32 page "how to" manual I must consult to straighten this out? :rolleyes:
 • Load times in and out of galleries, portfolio, and configuration panels are horrible. 5-10 seconds on loads and reloads--and this is not a "cloud" issue. I note that there are a ton of errors being thrown with the all.min.css instruction set. Anyone had a look?
 • The paragraph break issue in the editor has now become ridiculous--how long have we been online with this in PN 2.whatever without any real resolution? This is a discussion forum that often leads to LONG responses--not a one line twitter fart fest. I am using the < p> code along with a breaker text line--that does not work well and for whatever reason the parser is not displaying any < br> set spacing after a refresh in FF. Can anyone give us a status report on how this is being fixed--not more instructions on hand coding a band-aid that sometimes works? :mad:
 • Some time back, I asked the question about user information in the avatar side panel. I note that "some" members seem to have custom lines in--and staff/moderators have titles in place. This may sound petty, but as a 12+ year paying member, I would like to see that status reflected in the forum--and not just in a profile that has to be clicked on as another step. It would also be nice to see such things as where a member is located, when they joined, and how many posts they have made. This is standard stuff--is this on the list of things to activate in the near future?
 • I see that the technical information fields for our photos is still not functional. The field boxes are there--but will accept no input. Where is the resolution of this on the project line?
~~~~~~~~~~~

<p>Not trying to be pissy about this--but these things to me are basic user experience matters--and certainly diminish the overall interaction people want to have with this new platform. :) I am staying out of the non-forum side again for another week or so--just to keep my frustration level down!</p>

Michael: Further experimenting finds that two < br> lines work here in forums but in the photo comments you need to use two lines of < p> (in both cases remove the space I inserted here for visibility). Hope this works for you... Mike

Funny, I too went back to my gallery and what I saw was not surprising. In my World War ll and Musique Non-Stop folder the large image to start the gallery has enlarged the crouch area of the men I have in that gallery, really? This is how I am represented? Second, there is an image that I have been trying to delete for a week now and the SOB will not delete, it just keeps on coming back and it is everywhere in my portfolios. I mean EVERYWHERE, funny. Prior, the site had such a professionalizem about it, now it has the appearance of being amateurish, View Bug-esk. I can't wait until I can use the site....Please make it soon....

The < p> lines worked yesterday in the photo comments, but after passing that info on to you and Alf, it doesn't now

I just tried it again, too--it didn't work the first time I entered it, but when I went back in and edited it back in, it worked, and after that I could add as many as I wanted with no problem. And either the p or br codes work on the re-edit. Who knew what hidden power the edit function has...

Add another problem to the list: I can see that people left critiques, but I can't see the critiques. When I click on the Critique balloon I come right back to the same page with the photo and the critique balloon, but no critiques.

Nope, no trouble... Mike

Hi, I cannot upload images if I've used "Save As" at the resizing stage, if i use "Save for Web" all is OK. I assume it is a problem in my file handling set up but I am not aware of changing anything since PN1. But I can upload just without EXIF metadata, but as the site no longer appears to show anyone's correctly now maybe not a great loss..............I would be interested to know if others are having the same issue..............GC..

I'm also using the same procedures as PN1 with all resizing and saving "Save As" in Photoshop Elements, including the EXIF data. Perhaps it's a browser issue although I've used both Firefox and Microsoft Edge and both work. Good luck... Mike

The images are

Tony - I think I figured out what's going on with the missing critiques--apparently they're listed according to the date they were uploaded to the site, not the date they were submitted for critique. "The final push" is indeed on the critique page, but since it was uploaded on 2 Feb, it landed on somewhere around page 30 of the Critique forum. I didn't check the other. Anyway, this morning I reported this as a bug in the bug report thread.

Hi Glenn. My Portfolio is there, but the library tends to disappear thus making losing function . Now back to not being to post to threads from within p.net This just started a couple of days ago. Is this a known bug that is hopefully being fixed?

Hi. I don't know if this has been answered elsewhere--sorry I didn't manage to find it if it was--but are the subforums going to come back at some point? What I mean is, at one time within the Medium Format forum, there was actually a subforum on Hasselblad. When I first bought a camera of that make, I could simply search photo.net for Hasselblad, and I would be directed to that subforum, meaning I could easily scan through the long list of posts that related *only* to Hasselblad. That feature was hugely valuable, as I could work my way through page-by-page and, while not really looking to have a specific question answered, I could find discussions that might prove interesting or valuable to me at some point. The main value was I could just *learn* about the Hasselblad system by reading through the posts. And I learned a *lot*!

In fact, just before the switchover, I'd gone back again to that subforum and had a tab open in my browser in which I was scanning through ancient posts, to see if there was anything there of interest--and I was constantly finding nuggets, even in posts over a decade old. That has disappeared now, sadly.

At that time, there were something like 135 pages of posts in the Hasselblad subforum, and I'd managed to make my way through the first 65 or so. Now, if you search photo.net for Hasselblad, you get a total of a mere *nine* pages of results presented. And the quality of many of those results is quite poor: many of those are actually not about Hasselblad at all, but are from a variety of other forums but pop up only because they include a tangential mention of the brand.

It seems a shame to me, considering how much I personally learned by having all the Hasselblad posts together in one place, to have lost that ability--particularly if it is permanently gone. And for some reason, much of the accumulated, and hugely valuable, knowledge in that subforum now seems to be not so easily accessible. (I would assume this was because many posts in that subforum didn't even *mention* Hasselblad, as posters assumed if you were in that subforum, you *knew* which camera they were talking about.)

Can we *please* have the Hasselblad subforum back, with all the original posts? And I'm sure there were several other subfora that were equally valuable to their particular users, who are now mourning their apparent loss.

Thanks!
