Niall Mitchell
Greetings all Having searched the internet without a conclusive answer for the capacities, I dug out my tank and am transcribing the data here. The Yankee 4x5 Developing tank lists several required volumes of solution depending on film size. Here is the list printed on the tank itself: yankeeAGITANKSOLUTION REQUIRED2 1/4 x 3 1/4 -- 32 oz.3 1/4 x 4 1/4 -- 45 oz.4 x 5 -- 55 oz6 x 9 cm -- 35 oz6.5 x 9 cm -- 35 oz9 x 12 cm -- 48 oz
Glenn McCreery
I have only used the tank for 4x5. Achieving uniform development is the challenge, so I limited the number of sheets developed to six, and used fairly dilute HC110 with frequent agitation. The capacity looks about right, but I always seemed to mix 64 oz, and then filled the tank to just overflowing to start with. A bit messy, but overfilling is much better than underfilling for achieving uniform development. For smaller film sizes, I would definitely fill the tank with more than the recommended amount. Also, I always performed a brief pre-soak using Kodak wetting agent to prevent air bubbles from sticking to the film. Using these steps, I achieved quite uniform development in the much maligned Yankee tank.
