I would never abandon photo.net, but...

For some, yes - but not everyone is looking to mix those paints. Maybe I am nuts, but I believe Instagram and Facebook have their places and use cases - as does photo.net. One size does not fit all.

Glen, I agree with you as well. One size does not fit all, but there is nothing for today's young photographer who are interested in getting more involved into photography to help them bridge up to a Photo Net site. We need to be more inclusive and incorporate a methodology to allow the "new" photographers to take part here. Camera manufacturers need to start making the technology interactive for just that purpose. They are so behind the curve, even more so than Photo Net! If things are not modernized it's going to be us old farts here carrying the banner to our own finish lines as we decline in numbers by attrition. On a side note, my two iPhone uploads have not even warranted a half dozen views each. They both indicated it was an iPhone as the camera and the images are good too. At least, before Photo Net 2.0 came along.

Updating to new platform allows for all kinds of possibilities to connect with new audiences but - building on antique technology foundation is not something any owner of photo.net would want to do. As for your iPhone uploads, your latest uploads appear to be Nikon EXIF - can you be more specific?

Like the OP, I do not plan to abandon Photo.net either. I will participate within the limits of what's possible with the new site. But without members Photo.net wouldn't exist. Why not let the members put it to the vote as to which site they prefer? This may or may not be a sensible idea, but I thought I'd ask.

Is there some limitation in the new platform that prevents maintaining a connection with the existing (old) audience? One of many features of the old format I liked was top photograph galleries that incorporated the rating system with pages that changed horizontally with just the click of one button. The new trending page with its vertical scroll requirement and load button is a very poor replacement.

So, gone are the parts of Photo Net that I found fun and the parts of it that made it a decent organizational tool are still thoroughly messed up" mhahn

You're not kidding. In this latest Pnet incarnation,

the few forums I follow have gone utterly silent.

:eek:Glen Palm has yet to address any of my concerns. No wonder that most traffic seems to be in the problem/complaint categories. BTW, this traffic also shows that I'm not the only one who has requested a refund of their paid subscription (12th year for me). Will the "parent company" allow/survive this apparent death spiral ?

Why can't you update and reboot but retain the part of Photo Net that I enjoyed: posting pictures for ratings and critique and seeing them (my pictures!) for a few minutes on the Photo Net home page? Unless it's a "me" centered fantasy, I don't really see the point of Photo Net. Advice, reviews, etc., you can get in so many places.

For some reason, a survey on whether or not you want ratings back on photo.net is in under the Progress Report 2/23 thread on the help forum.

Looks like the google search to legacy topics is now pointing to the right links. This was a huge concern for me since a lot of where the site’s value resides is in it’s immense knowledge base, I use it in educating young photographers. I can be patient with this transition, lots to do in the meantime….
