lionel foong
Hi, I bought this AE-1 Program about 4 months ago and I've been using it quite often but today when I took it out and planning to take shots with it, I realized that there are black rings when I look through the viewfinder. I will post a link below to view how the black rings look like. http://imgur.com/a/OYVPO If anyone knows about this issue please let me know how to solve them? Please and thank you! jim_bielecki1
Interesting. Probably your view screen. Try removing the view screen and see what it looks like.
awahlster
Be extremely careful if you attempt to clean the view screw. Its best to no touch the matte side at all.

jim_bielecki1
AE-1 Program's had interchangeable view screens. When you bought a new viewscreen, Canon supplied a special tool to help in removal/installation. If you can locate one of these tools, it'd be easy to remove the screen and see what the issue is. mwmcbroom
I picked up a tip on cleaning viewing screens from a pro years ago. Handle the screen by the edges only, then place it in an empty film canister. Fill the canister with warm, mildly soapy water -- dish detergent works well for this. Then put the cap on the canister and give it a good shake. Let the canister set for a few minutes, then flush with clean water until all the detergent has been washed out. Remove the screen and place it on a lint-free cloth or paper towel and let dry. Then, handling by the edges again, hold it up to the light and inspect it for these lines. Insert it back in the camera and inspect it again. You should have a clean screen. If not, repeat the process until it is clean.
