Progress Report - 2/15

The moved cheese analogy is applicable to the new format. I presume combing out the glitches will take some time as long as the glitch fixers are willing to lean into it on a consistent basis. Regardless, I'm impressed with the volume of images pouring into this site and the quality of images says it all as to P.Nets reverence to its users and viewers.

Fine, then I'll take it out on you GPalm. I'm sorry - I'm typically a very patient and understanding person, but this is absolutely unbelievable. I'm a professional web designer myself, and this new site roll out is the biggest blunder I've ever witnessed. I paid for a functioning site, and now it's garbage - nothing works at all. It would seem to me that your dev team barely tested anything before rolling this out. I see no way in my account settings to cancel or at least be sure you won't automatically renew my account, but if anyone in charge actually reads this - I want out. Close my account please.

Some cheese has moved. Some needs the mouldy bits cut off. Some has just changed into American cheese, which some of us may find distasteful but have to put up with. Other features are a strong blue cheese, which is an acquired taste and smells funny, but may grow on us. There are a few areas where the cheese is improved (tracking which threads you've read); the rest will take some time. I hope they don't stop working on the cheese. It appears we're stuck with it, since the producer of the old cheese could no longer manage to stay profitable - that's the farming market for you. It's better than last time, which was definitely vegan cheese, and I've had friends give me a thorough analysis of that. (I'm sure some thought it was acceptable, but most of us didn't.) So long it's not the weird brown stuff they have in Norway. :-)

That said, a week in, it would be lovely if I wasn't still typing tiny grey text over a "Write your reply..." background.

Shhhhh ... don't rush them, Andrew. I believe this whole ... episode is an ingeniously planned maneuver by Glenn to get those who aren't interested in helping photo.net be a better place and attract new members to self-identify and beg to be removed.

You will need to be more specific - I see your portfolio here https://www.photo.net/2160216 28 photos, 3 Galleries - looks beautiful, how is it dysfunctional? People make comments on it, you can find those comments in "My Portfolio>Your Activity" - if you make comments on other photos - you can track comments in the same spot.

Just the basic naviagation through a gallery is so dysfunctional . . . . if you click on a picture to take a look at it, the order of the other pictures in the gallery changes . . . after scrolling through a certain number of pictures (not that many), you get a "load more" icon, leaving you with very little idea how many more pictures are in the gallery . . . PhotoNet is just completely dysfunctional at this point.

I respectfully disagree - 10 navigation tabs in v1 have been streamlined to 4 in v2 - new members are joining at a faster rate than I can remember, and I am getting comments about how much people l appreciate how much easier it is to navigate. Yes - it takes some getting used to but its not dysfunctional.

I hope there will be a way to diminish the in your face photographer profile that shows up when one goes to your site. I think it is too intrusive and there should be a way to arrange how it looks. I have noticed others have mentioned this as well. I would rather have my images be the first thing you see rather than my profile.

As of now, you can change the background image and your profile photo. I can add to our list the possibility of default be minimized in favor of photos and expanded to this space. Is that inline with your thinking?

Am I wrong about the picture order changing every time I click on a picture in a gallery?

Speaking of "Your Activity", I just found that feature and it is a step in the right direction but please please sort the comments by entry date. It's a jumbled mixture of confusion now. Also, when I see a photo that needs a follow-up comment; I click on it and then when I try to go back to my previous location it sends me all the way back to the beginning of "Your Activity". How about returning to where we were just previous? Thanks... Mike

Edit: A second try at using this new feature found the comments more organized (don't know why they weren't the first use - oh well); but the back button is still wacko. Thanks... Mike

Yes that is what I am thinking. Right now it just seems too intrusive and not very inviting to the site.

Thanks for your quick response!

Mr. Palm, would you consider this to be normal, functional behavior: Here's the message I get when I try to access my account from the forum's page.

We really can't accurately comment on it until you share exactly what it was you were doing that created that so we can replicate and determine if its a bug or not. Were you logged in - because if you were not logged in and tried to access an are that would require you to be logged in then yes, this would be what I expect you get in return.

Yes. I was logged in. I was on the forum thread page and clicked my link associated with my name. The forbidden message page was displayed after the click.
