Practive Makes Perfect, so they say

A brief description: type in < p> without a space between the < and the p to get a line break,

type in < p> & nbsp; < p> without spaces between the < and the p or between the & and the nbsp; to get a blank line between paragraphs.

It's probably best to head over to that forum and see the description James gave.

It was easier to get a paragraph break with an Underwood typewriter illuminated by an oil lamp, or with a printing press for that matter. Admins are certainly aware of the problem and I hope it gets fixed soon. Till then, thanks for the tip and info regarding the source thread.

The recent view from our livingroom window.

I don't remember posting that Avatar picture, but I guess I must have at some point. That's my buddy Elwood scanning the shore for anything else with four legs.

Hey Gup,

Funny you would post that image. It's 55f here right now, with bright sunshine. By noon tomorrow we'll have 8 maybe more inches of snow. The numbers keep going up. First major snowfall this winter. Time to bring in some firewood. Glad to see folks getting images posted in different ways. I hope flno gets the goldeneye posted. That's a good looking duck.

Laura, the snow blew for 2 days and then for 8 minutes we had this break before it went crazy again. It was amazing to just see the sky break open and the wind stop. I had just enough time to get a few before and afters from my windows. The weather here is a non-ending banquet of wonder all year long. Yesterday I had to walk a kilometre to meet a delivery man out on the main road and he smiled and said, 'Does it ever stop snowing out here?'. 29 years here last month and we wouldn't change a thing. Now, if I can figure out what everyone is saying about paragraph breaks!

Good Morning Christoph,

Yesterday there was an edit function after a post was made, but now I don't see it. Hmmmmmm. You probably saw the 2 different options for posting an image. It's all a bit confusing, but we'll get the hang of it. That's a great image. It must have been breath taking in person.

Thank you Laura. Yes, it was a cool spot to be. We spent three weeks in Nepal. Unfortunately, most images will never make it into the Nature forum: too much evidence of the "hand of man". It is amazing to see an entire hillside, probably more than 1000 meters in relief, completely terraced.

I'll post some pictures soon on my site. In the meantime, let's try to figure out these posts. Obviously I figured out how to post my pictures in decent size. So, now let's see whether that paragraph issue still exists. Another thing I noticed (I'll double check in a moment), we can't add captions to the image.

Well, as it turns out, now I can't upload anything at all. All I get is "there was an error with your file" after I cancelled the first attempt.

:-(

Second time around: I guess once you cancel an upload you might as well start from scratch. <br>

The paragraph breaks clearly didn't work. Let's see whether some generic html code might provide a workaround.

Captions can't be placed below the image, so we better figure out what we want to say before we include an image. Growing pains, I hope, since elsewhere on this site we were assured that the software used was written "by the best in the business". :-)

In any case, here's another shot from Langtang valley, with the "hand of man" mostly hidden in the shadows. :-)

Well, glad to see more folks coming in and kicking the tires on our new digs. Today has seen some changes and improvements, so I'll point out the highs and lows.

  • No, paragraph breaks don't work. There is a thread over in test posts about work arounds, but they involve DOS looking code implants. I'm using the ordered list function here. It's working for me.

  • On the bright side, this morning the edit function was gone, but now seems to have reappeared, along with Delete/IP/Warn/ and Report. YEAH! They're all at the bottom of your post. I was able to edit a post 30 minutes after I posted yesterday.

  • Still no way that I have learned to get our real names on our posts. There is quite a bit of discussion about this over in site help and a thread to ID yourself....thanks Leslie. Anyone with a user name that isn't obvious, please, let us know who you are. We are a community and it matters for all of us to be able to recognize one another. If you wish to remain incognito, well, that's cool too. It looks like something that is getting attention, so hopefully we'll have a fix soon.

  • I won't speak about portfolio issues here. Let's work here on posting and help one another work out the kinks. Thanks to everyone who is helping out....that's all of you!
  • Practice starting a thread so we can all practice posting. Make those nature images work! Go for it.

Well, it seems to be working, but just in case, and since there's a thread here, I'll toss a couple more mushrooms in the salad. These are some un-known shrooms from the Amazon basin. I did not nibble them to see what would happen.

edit to add: I see I made the mistake of putting it in thumbnail version rather than full. Or maybe that's not such a mistake. It works too.
