david_wood8
Hello, I have never printed from a negative larger than 6x6cm, so I'm looking for guidance on buying an enlarger so I can make prints from film I put through this camera. The frame measures 6x17 centimeters. Thanks!
jim_momary
That would need a 5x7 (inch) or larger enlarger. The Durst 138? was a 5x7 enlarger that always was praised. The Zone VI was also available in 5x7. Omega used to make one too, but not familiar with its designation. A lot of folks apparently nowadays scan the film and do inkjet printing. Happy hunting. AJG
+1 for the Zone VI 5x7 for B&W--I've only used mine forum to 4x5, but it is built for up to 5x7 with the appropriate lens and negative carrier. It is the most solid enlarger I have ever used.
rodeo_joe1
Lines & Jones made a very simple cold light enlarger for up to half-plate. Probably your most compact and cheapest option if you're on a tight budget and can find one. You're almost certainly going to have to make, or commission, a custom negative carrier or filmholder for any enlarger. Unless it has a universal glass carrier with adjustable masks. You'll also need a 210mm enlarging lens, and they're not a common item either. Beware of enlargers with fan cooling for the lamphouse. A built-in fan can cause vibration problems if old and worn. You had best check the value of his camera. Anyone with a Linhof 617S III isn't necessarily on a budget. However, a 57 quality enlarger requires a lot of space and that might restrict what he buys. Most of my shots with this camera were scanned on a drum scanner and printed from the scan into, usually, 5 foot wide prints.
