Sony/Minolta pictures of the week | 20 November

I have been having severe GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) over the Sigma Merrill DP2. Every reviewer says that the DP2 works best at low ISOs so I set the Sony A100 at 100 ISO and took a few raw mode pictures to see what it could do. The results were sharpened slightly, converted to jpg and this is how it looks.
00eEz9-566498284.thumb.jpg.fa3a831c1183bae2cba9df49013dcb6f.jpg

Randy what does the HHT refer to in your caption for the moon? Those reds and greens in your third shot remind me that I always loved my a100's crisp colors at iso100...

Patrick I think the dog wasn't quite as eager as your son to follow the director's instructions for the scene at hand ^o^

It's been a mad mad mad six months for me but now I'm in Argentina again for work, and hopefully that means I'll find more time to keep up with the PotW fun again. And what could be more fun than some hot & hairy bugs from down under in the "Conosur"?

00eF6F-566522484.thumb.jpg.d8d50c5d4eef1971f478753e0324249b.jpg

Paul,

Found this explanation for HHT

With HHT (hand held twilight) mode, the basic idea is to use 6 frames to stack together at high ISO, allowing the shutter speed to be stepped up to within reasonable handheld speeds, while keeping typical high ISO noise down and maintaining detail usually lost to noise reduction. HHT mode will first open the aperture as needed, then will try to maintain a shutter speed around 1/30 or so - raising the ISO as needed to maintain that shutter speed range.

That's a nice moon, Randy, and it's great to see your macros again, Paul.

I was in Somerset this last weekend, in the tiny city of Wells. Wells is famous for its C14 cathedral, and here are a few pictures from the interior. It was quite late in the afternoon and it was getting dark outside, let alone the darker interior. These are all ISO 8000-12800 shots just about enabling me to use handheld shutter speeds around 1/25 sec.
