X-700 question

I have 2 x-700 cameras which I bought separately. The

first one was unused and works beautifully with nothing

needed. The 2nd which i bought for the lenses that came

with it, is having some issues which I'd like to see about

fixing. I replaced the light seals and mirror cushion (that

is a pain in the butt let me tell you) but going back to

when I first got it I put a battery in it and it wouldn't turn

on. I took the battery back out placed it back in changing

nothing and it turned on just fine. Had the same problem

today but think it is an isue with the battery cover as I

switch it with one frim my x-370 and it works fine.

Next question is to do with the on off switch, it's not as

"crisp" as my first one and when you set it to the setting

which beeps it doesn't beep unless you point the camera

at a downward angle. Would this be caused by a wire

which came off? Or what would cause this? I'd like to

find out before I start taking things apart.

Mechanical and electronic issues are no surprise in cameras of the X700 vintage. Whether they're worth the expense of repairing is questionable. Parts must either be non-existent, or in short supply. They still are beautiful though, aren't they?

I have a fleet of working X-700 cameras. Why are they working so well? John Titterington. If he can't fix what's wrong with your X-700, probably no one can. The X-700 is a pleasure to use. Its bright finder makes focusing even slower lenses easy. The meter is fast and accurate. The TTL flash feature is very useful.

Looked like a good lead for repair, Jeff. So far, no response from an e-mail to Mr. Titterington. I have a perfect X700, except for a gunky mess on the mirror and focusing screen from a liquefied mirror bumper, and almost non-existent, gummy light seals.

I bought my x-700 and x-570 from John Titterington on eBay. He also repaired my x-700 when it stopped working for Free even though I had the camera almost a year. He replaced a capacitor and that fixed the camera. If you cant contact him by email look for one of his auctions and contact him about your problem.
