Hi there,

Probably a basic question but I'm looking to buy the above for some

sports photography and wondered what brands of lens' are compatible

with the above camera? I currently use a 28-80 lens. What would you

recommend for sports shots? Thanks!

All minolta Maxxum lenses (A-bayonet mount) are compatible with your camera. Also, other manufacturers (Sigma, Tamron, Tokina) produce lenses in Minolta A-mount. So, you've got plenty of choice - the question is how much money you want to spend. :-)

P.S.

If you want to do sports photography you may want to think of another (Minolta) body with better (more capable) AF system.

What sports are you interested in ? This will have some bearing on the lens you need. Roughly what is your budget and are you prepared to buy second hand ?

There are a multitude of lenses available. For background information may I suggest that you go to Michael Hohner's website (www.mhohner.de ) and see the variety of lenses available to you ( Minolta only) as "knowledge is power".

The sports forum on this site would also be worth a look as it will give you some insight into what people use.

Armed with the above information you will be able to appreciate the good advice you are going to receive on this forum.

If 200mm is long enought for you, look for a Minolta 70-200mm f4. The old, metal barrel version of this lens has an outstanding reputation, and usually sells fairly cheaply second hand - under $100. In fact, www.keh.com is currently offering one in bargain condition for $76. KEH is well known for down rating their equipment, ie what they call bargain would be excellent plus or even mint most anywhere else. They also have some nemer versions of the 70-200mm - mostly the 4-5-5.6 - for even less or for the same money in a higher rated condition, but the bargain 70-200mm f4 for $76 is the one I would choose.
