robert_byrd1
Here's some copy for an ad for the XD-11 in the July 1978 copy of "Modern Photography." INTRODUCING THE FUTURE OF PHOTOGRAPHY. IT CAN CHANGE THE WAY YOU TAKE PICTURES. Tomorrow's camera is here: a compact 35mm SLR so advanced that it can actually correct exposure errors, even if you fail to. THE XD-11 ACCEPTS ANY MINOLTA LENS WITHOUT MODIFICATION. If you own Rokkor-X or Celtic lenses, you'll be glad to know that they can be used without modification on the XD-11 in the aperture-priority and manual modes. A new series of Rokkor-X and Celtic "MD" lenses has been designed for use with the XD-11 in all modes. COMPACT. LIGHTWEIGHT. INCREDIBLY SMOOTH. The XD-11 is compact, but not cramped. Lightweight but with that solid, substantial Minolta feeling. Your fingers fall into place naturally on oversized controls. The back is contoured to fit your hands. Glove- soft leather-like material cushions the body. The film advance is silky smooth, without a trace of harshness. A feather touch on the electromagnetic shutter release activates the metering system and viewfinder display. Exposures are made effortlessly, with vibration and sound cushioned by insulation and a specially designed damper mechanism. robert_byrd1
More from the same ad: EXCLUSIVE MULTI-MODE OPERATION FOR UNPRECEDENTED CREATIVE FREEDOM. In aperture-priority mode, you set the lens opening and the XD-11 sets the shutter speed automatically. This lets you control depth-of-field and use close-up equipment and mirror lenses automatically. Shutter-priority mode lets you control shutter speed while the XD-11 sets the aperture automatically. For creative control in aither automatic mode, you can modify expousre up to + or - 2 EV. Or you can set both shutter and aperture yourself in the metered-manual mode. A TOTAL-INFORMATION FINDER SO BRIGHT IT DEFIES DESCRIPTION. The light-gathering power of two million conical prisms makes the XD-11 viewfinder the brightest in all of 35mm SLR photography. And the combination mat/split-image/microprism screen assures fast, effortless focusing and composing. The instant-return mirror is the largest in any 35mm SLR, meaning there's no image cut-off even with the longest telephoto lenses. Regardless of operating mode, you need never lose sight of your subject to make exposure adjustments. Windows show pre-selected aperture and/or shutter speed. LED read-outs change to show shutter speed or aperture being set automatically. There are also LED flash-ready and under/over exposure warnings. And in the shutter-priority mode, even if you fail to heed exposure warnings, the XD-11 will automatically adjust speed for correct exposrre within the range of the shutter. Electronically controlled shutter speeds are stepless from one second to 1/1000th second. No matter how quickly the light changes, exposure is infinitely precise. And when batteries fail, the shutter will operate at "B" for time expousres and "O" at 1/100th second. [more soon]
