rome_fowler
I was thinking of purchasing a low end fisheye lens in the near future. However, I'm not quite sure if the lens I had in mind would actually fit on my Maxxum 5. From what I've read on different web sites, an educated guess would be NO. Below you will find the lens in question. Thank you for your help in advance. - MC ZENITAR 2.8/16 lens - Minolta MD mount - Russian Made
bacsa
Minolta MD mount fits the Minolta manual focus(non-dynax,non-maxxum) camera bodies.
You *physically* will be unable to put the MD mount lens on the AF camera.
There are Minolta manual/autofocus mount converters which enable MD lenses on maxxums, but with some restrictions, AND, the biggest drawback in your case is that they are always a teleconverter in the same time(1.4X i think)...so you will longer the focal length of the fisheye + lose speed of about 1 stop. You loose image quality too, of course, but I don't know if that's an issue when you want to use a "low-end" fisheye, anyway.
On the other hand, I've no clue what happens to the field of view of a fisheye when used with a teleconverter. You can try it out with a minolta/sigma/etc fisheye and a TC in a good local shop:)actually, you gave me an idea, i will try it tomorrow !Thanks! dave_redmann
If you really are willing to try such a low-performance setup, why not just buy one of the 0.42 X converter lenses that screws into the filter threads on one of your regular Minolta AF lenses? On a 50mm lens, this would give you about the equivalent of a 21mm, on a 35mm lens, 15 mm, and on a 28mm lens, 12 mm. Sort of. Anyway, it will work and you can get the only thing you need for, IIRC, about $30 - $40. I know Adorama advertises them. Alternatively, I will observe that I've considered buying a manual focus body to take advantage of all of the good, cheap, manual focus lenses out there. The only problem is that the really good manual focus lenses (and I don't mean some cheap Russian item) aren't that cheap.
kelly_flanigan1
The Russian MC ZENITAR 2.8/16 is a decent lens; it just will not fit the Maxxum..
