theorist
I'm considering this lens for my Minolta X-700. Is this a good lens to get? What price should I expect to pay?
BernardMiller
I had the Nikon mount version for a while. I can't remember what it cost (it was about 60% the price of Nikon's own lens, if I recall correctly). The lens is extremely sharp--you should have no complaints whatsoever about its performance. I eventually traded it for the Nikon macro lens, as I was a little suspicious of the durability of the mechanics of the lens--I tend to use mine in some rather rough conditions. That said, I can't really say for sure that the Sigma lens is truly any less durable than Nikon's (or Minolta's); under normal conditions it will probably work just fine. And again, optically it is as good as anything out there, and better than most. You would probably be most happy with it, if you decide to go with it. costas_lymbouris
I do not know about price but looking at the test results on photodo.com, this is one of the sharpest lenses made by Sigma. There are other factors to consider such as contrast, but on paper starts to look like a good option.
http://www.photodo.com/prod/lens/detail/SiAF90_28Makro-761.shtml
