I am interested in purchasing a Minolta Dual Scan III and I am

wondering what resolution I can expect. Up till now I have been

getting my film scanned to CD in a shop and wonder if the Minolta can

achive the same standard. Here is what the shop can provide:

16 Base - 3360 x 2240 resolution (21.5Mb approx file size)

Hmmm

According to the Minolta website, the Dual scan III is a 16 bit scanner working at upto 2820dpi and for a 35mm frame produces an image that is 2,688 x 4,032 pixels. That is quite respectable for prints upto A4 as long as you do not need to crop the image too much.

The scanner has a good reputation, but a lot depends on what equipment you hook it upto, must have "fast USB2" interface. Minolta will be launching a 5400dpi scanner in July if you need more pixels!

Garrett,

I have had this scanner for 7 months and I am still amazed at the quality of its' output vs the meager $300 it costs.

It produces both 8 & 16 bit A/D which means the file size can approach 55MB in 16 bit(you can set the output at 300 dpi, as an example, and I believe the dimensions are 8.5 vs 12.5 inches). So it appears to capture more than the "standard" you mention.

I am not a techy, by any stretch, but the interface is easy to operate, allows for some dust & noise reductions and supports the color profiles you may wish to load.

Another great feature is its' use of multi-sampling, where it can be set to a factor of 8x so it can grab as much detail out of the shadows.

Check out the reviews in:

I hope this helps. I do not believe anything can compare for the price point and the output would allow up to 11x14 at an acceptable dpi.

Let us know your choice.........
