dominic_t._lupico
I have a nice used 40D coming in and was wondering if there is a limit to the size CF card it will recognize.
I'd like to use Lexar 32GB Professional 1066x 160MB/s CompactFlash when using RAW.. Thanks.
JosvanEekelen
Check the manual or other (test) websites. It's probably limited by the CF sizes of the day it was introduced, that may be less than 32 GB. Apart from that I expect the 32 GB card to work even at lower capacity.
dominic_t._lupico
Thanks. Manual has CF info for type 1 or 2 but doesn't mention maximum recognized. I should be fine with a couple smaller cards. I appreciate the quick reply.
JDMvW
list of CF for 40D from a vendor:
https://www.mymemory.com/compatible-memory/Digital_Cameras/Canon/Canon+EOS+40D_Memory_Cards
Mark Keefer
I just tested this, I put a 64gig Lexar Pro 1066x 160MB/s CF memory card in my old 40D and formatted it. It formatted and showed 59.6 gig free, I shot one photo. it seemed to work fine. I have never shot all day with this, but your 40D will probably show 999 photos available for a very long time.

Cheers, Mark

dave_mockford
Might be worth checking it has latest firmware installed, I've found some older cameras need the latest firmware version before reading larger cards.
jo7hs2
I had no issues using a 266x 32GB card from SanDisk back before I traded in my 40D, so I'm pretty sure the limit is = or > 32GB. Individual card compatibility may vary.
