richard_azar
Hi Everyone, I recently purchased an F2 that appears to be in good condition. However, when holding the camera up to a light all the shutter speeds seem to be fine as far as speed and letting light through the shutter curtain except the 1/2000. It seems to wind just fine and retract when clicking the shutter button, just no light gets through. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.
craig_shearman1
The 1/2000 time is very, very fast. Are you really sure no light is getting through? I would try some test shots before I would come to that conclusion.
kari_oinonen
Take the lens off, manual 1/2000 sec, film door open, dark room with one lamp - or similar setup. Aim the camera to the light and trip the shutter. You should see a light pulse coming through, even at 1/4000 th.
If not, the shutter may need adjustment.
rodeo_joe1
If there really is no light getting through at 1/2000th, then the shutter blinds need re- tensioning. What's most likely happening is that the second blind is catching up with the first during transit. A fairly common problem, which results in the image being darker on one side than the other at medium-high speeds, and disappearing altogether at the highest speeds. IIRC, the F2 shutter can be re-tensioned after removal of just the bottom plate. However, before tinkering or putting the camera in for repair, I recommend working the shutter a few dozen times to see if it eases the problem. Cameras like to be used and one that's sat doing nothing is likely to have stiffened up. A bit like old humans!
richard_azar
Rodeo Joe, thanks for your response. I agree, " a bit like old humans". I will give that a try.
