E system 43 focus speed on OMD em1

Hi,
I'm currently shooting with an em5 and a Pen epl5. I recently picked up a 43 system 14-54mm 2.8-3.5 lens which I love. Built like a tank and superb optical quality.
However, as I'm sure you folks know -- there's an aggravating delay in auto focus. I know that the em1 will focus "up to speed" with the E system lenses. -- I'd like to know though just how fast this focus speed actually is. Does the em1 focus with 43 lenses as fast as with micro 43 lenses.
I'm going to keep the 14-54mm lens but I'm thinking about getting a used em1 body for the enhanced autofocus performance.
Would this be worth the expenditure???
Thanks

Hi Peter,
I have the M1, M5 and E3 including the 14-54 Mk1. I can confirm that the lens will focus much faster with the M1, basically acceptable, but not as fast as the 12-40 PRO which i just recently acquired. My main problem or dislike with the 14-54 is the size and weight compared to the 12-40. Sharpness and contrast are very similar between the two lenses. I hesitated a long time before buying the 12-40 because of the weight and size, but when traveling the zoom is very convenient.

Fast is relative to each individual I guess. I used the lens you speak of with the E-3 and I know have tried it with the E M1. Just fine. And you may want to be on the watch for the 50mm macro which is also robust and not all that large in size. The 50-200 mm is a bulky addition to the E M1 but it also works well even at tele length. So my feeling is that Olympus did a good job in getting its old lenses to do their thing with the E M1 sensor. I expect that the older lenses will continue to have a lifespan. Why not take them if a bargain presents..

The Em-1s (Mark l and ll) are, in

fact, the only micro43 that have

phase-detection autofocus, the

only way to get quick and precise

af. "Old" 4/3 lenses are about

useless with other m43 bodies,

unless you have the time to

magnify the image in the

viewfinder. I used a EP2 with VF4

finder with medíocre af results.

My new Lumix GX8 is a bit better, but

still very slow. You can still

get a new EM-1 for less than 700

euros in several sites, such as

purnima-digital, where I got mine

for 530 € 18 months ago.
